Members Bitterguy
I am going to be making my own guitar i i decided i want to swirl it. but before i get the guitar made I'm going to swirl the current guitar i have now.I have some question about it. Were can i buy borax. (http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/swirled.htm) says i need it Will any oil based paints work? ( i found some at my local craft store.) How long should i let the borax set for? Do i have to take out my electronics (really don't want to have to solder stuff) or can i just tape them and hope for the best? Thanks for your help ahead of time. Members Orange Jackson
There is a really good youtube "how to" video on swirls that has bounced around the forum. I don't have the link, but hopefully someone can post a link to it for you.

Members Kace
Borax is just a cleaning product and should be available at most grocery stores/drug stores or wherever you would find laundry detergent. It's usually in a box or sometimes a can. As far as paint, any oil-based paint that will a) float on the water and b) hold to the wood properly should work. If you ask at your local paint store or hardware store (or home depot/lowes/etc) they should be able to give some advice as well.

Members pak066
ya, test it out first. i have yet to do the whole guitar but here are a few pieces that i did. the borax has a specific % concentration it needs to be to work the best. but it comes out really cool. i just need a way to get the bubbles out of it. i hope this helps a bit. Members pak066
ya, you need to go back to all bare wood. sand everything. take all the electronics and hardwear off. i put a few layers of primer on before i dipped it. then a clear coat would be necessary after. Members Bitterguy
the monster v will be swirled!!!? Sadly no ( on my other thread you will see that i changed it to a B.C. rich warlock type design.) I'm going to be doing this to my peavey rockfapper (rockmaster) *EDIT* Lol just got done talking to dad he says he doesn't want me taking apart my only electric guitar. in case something would go wrong i wouldn't be able to play. He is going to help me route my thick rough copy to teach me how to do it. and i will swirl that post it on this thread my guitar build thread and as my avatar

Members Bitterguy
I've come up with a 3rd revision for the body. A B.C. rich Kerry King beast V ( dad says it looks cool and classy at the same time ((Like a tux i guess)) so it isn't like "ooooo it is so cool in your face" like the warbeast or warlock its more of a "pretty darn cool lookin guitar", now watch me shred , will be posting pics when rough draft is cut tomorrow). I was also looking at complementary color charts on wiki and i was thinking colors along the lines of Red, yellow, black, and maybe, orange? *Edit* Drawing pix
