Members wkrantz7
Can you just solder one end to a typical wire to extend the pickup?
Members D-log
Either that or solder a new wire at the contact point
Members pixelchemist
i usually just add new wire, solder, and seal the joint with heat shrink
Members mike42
Yep, it's not a big deal. Just add whatever you need to extend it. The type of wire isn't critical, but it probably makes sense to use some sort of reasonably flexible hookup wire or you may have difficulty cramming it back into the cavity. And it does need to be insulated.
Members wkrantz7
And it does need to be insulated. Do you mean sealing the joint with heat shrink? Is there a type of heat shrink typically used, and is it tough to apply? (i'm very new to this stuff.)
Members PanaDP
It's a little tube. You cut a length that will cover the area you need and slide it on. When you apply heat, it will shrink down tight.
