Members guitarmandp
I have an R9 on the way. It has double white exposed pickups, I'm thinking of putting a double white Super Distortion in the bridge and PAF Pro in the neck. Anybody ever try this combination on a Les Paul? Ace Frehley used it and one of my favorite players Al DiMeola used it on the old Return to Forever albums.
Members and
I'd definitely try it if I wasn't lazy - I love the way it sounds in my Washburn SG knockoff WI64.
Members cratz2
Has anybody ever put a Super Distortion in a Les Paul No. Never. I mean, yeah, I had a Super Distortion in a Les Paul Jr and a Super Distortion in the bridge and a Super Distortion 2 in the neck of a Les Paul. Members EADGBE
I believe Tom Scholz's Les Paul had a super distortion at the bridge when he made the 1st Boston album.
Members rorylawford
I have a Super Distortion in the bridge of my Epi Les Paul - does that count? It sounds amazing by the way.
Members Mr_GoodBomb
The Super Distortion was made for a Les Paul. Great combo.
Members MichaelSaulnier
DiMarzio Super Distortion in a Les Paul? Didn't just about EVERYONE in the 80's? That pup in that guitar nearly defined rock tones in the 80's. It was viewed as a real "power" pup in the day, but now is pretty medium gain. I thought Scholz's Les Paul had P90s -- at least that's what I always see him pictured with from that era and in videos on YouTube.

P-90 neck pickup, and a SD in the bridge position..
Members Armitage
I have a few Les Pauls with Super Distortions, they're they way to go for hard rock tones. P.S. Don't call them double whites, they're cream... order double whites... and you'll get white. I know some guys on the Les Paul started calling them that... and they're in for a surprise. Members Kap'n
How could you replace the pickups on an R9??? Plenty of people do it. Throbaks, Timbuckers, Dr. Vintage, etc. Just not Super Distortions. That's like putting ketchup on caviar.

Yeah, I didn't want to say anything about putting a Super Distortion into a beautiful R9, but I figure with guitarmandp, it's unlikely to see much play time so why not. Members dpartn
I expected him to want to put those into his new Page #2 LP! But since he bought it from a very dubious source I guess it doesn't hurt to mod it out. Or any of his guitars he snags off ebay or other non authorized resellers claining he paid the full price for pissing contest sake. The biggest question he should be asking is if he will ever invite a real guitar player over to actually do justice to any of these pieces. Members Citizen Cain
Youngsters. Ain't it the truth The combination to have back in the '70s was a SD bridge and PAF neck (they didn't have the PAF Pro back then). Pump that into a JMP 2204 and stand back!! Members lp_junkie
I've been using Super D's in Les Pauls since 1979-80, with the PAF Pro or Air Norton in the neck after they came out.

Members GomezAddams1
My standard had a super distortion in the bridge, and a Dimarzio PAF at the neck when I bought it many years ago. IMHO, it was somewhat a one-trick pony. Awesome at cranking rock, but not very good for anything else. Anything other than balls-to-the-wall and it just sounded muddy and dull. I traded it with a buddy of mine for a stock Gibson humbucker. The PAF went in the bridge, and the stock went in the bridge. I was much happier with the results.
