Members Crave Case
This seems like a good deal. AMS is closing them out for $399. EMG 81/85, grovers, tune-o-matic, flame maple top, etc. Has anyone played one of these? I'm kind of tempted to pull the trigger. http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-ESP-VPR401FM-LIST link working now.
Members smorgdonkey
I have played about 5 of the 400 series...they are excellent. I can't imaging that there'd be too much difference in the 401.

Members tiltsta
I remember hearing that the 400 series was made in Korea, and was replaced with the Indonesian 401 series guitars. I've heard the Korean models are made better, but how much of this is internet crap isn't clear to me. I played a 401 model not too long ago (the one that looks like an SG), it was a well made guitar, but the neck shape was not my thing.

After some checking around, the 401 series is indeed made in Indonesia. I wonder how this affects the quality? For $399, it seems that it's not much of a gamble, considering how the guitar is equipped. Hopefully.
Members gasolinefight
I have a Korean made Viper 400 that I love to death. It's currently fitted with Lollar imperial humbuckers, mmmmmmmm..... But the EMGs that were in it before were nice too. I don't know about the Indonesia made stuff, my experience with LTD's has only been the Korean, and all of them have been great.

Members linthat22
Was gonna order, but gonna wait. I called AMS and they said they currently show 2 shipments coming in; one on 2/20 and another on 2/23. I asked the girl that it shows a special price and if those two loads coming in were the last ones and she said that from what she sees in the system that the particular model isn't going away and shows as a current model. Ya'll think that maybe there was a price drop in that particular model? I mean it doesn't seem like a bad deal. What's funny is that if you order the guitar and case, they'll ship the case first and then the guitar once it comes in. She said the only way they'd wait to ship the guitar in the case is if you called in and specifically tell them to hold the guitar case and once the guitar came in, you'd have to call back when you thought it'd be available and release the order. A couple extra steps, but then again I don't know how well they ship their guitars without a case.
Members toyloy
I just ordered one of these. Seems like a great deal. Most places are selling it for $679. I figured what the hell, I'll try it.
Members cratz2
I've had about 6 Korean LTDs and currently have an Indonesian Viper 100. Mine is fine, but I've played several of the recent LTDs and they do feel a bit less good overall, but not bad at all. LTDs don't have great resale either. I got my vintage black EC1000 for $500 shipped. I'd definitely rather have a used Korean EC1000 than a new Indonesian EC401 and it is easily with the extra $$$. Members Spike Li
I can vouch for Indonesian. I have a Squier Deluxe Strat thats a flawless in terms of build quality. I can vouch for Indonesian guitars too, own 3 and the quality on them far exceeds what you would expect considering their prices. In fact, the action on the necks are near perfect! That said, I would personally prefer something like the Godin Redline series if i was looking for another cheap guitar with EMGs (i prefer the body shape, never been an SG fan)

I wouldn't be buying it @$679. $399 seems like a good deal. I'll post some pics when i get it.
Members toyloy
Just got it from UPS. It looks flawless to my eye. I'm very happy with it. Now I just need to decide on an amp. Peavey Vypyr, or a small tube amp?

Members toyloy
Fucker. you are about to cost me 400 dollars. I like the looks and i love the way my ec 1000 feels. How do you like it so far? I'm about to take it in to a local shop here, and check it out with a few different amps. As far as the finish, and fit, I can't find anything wrong. Buy one on the easy payment plan, that way you're not out much $$$, and you can return it if you don't like it. I'll bet that you keep it though. Mooooohahahaha! Members mfergel
Yeah, I've got a few Washburns made in Indonesia. Wonder if they are coming from the same shop? Go for the Vyper but get a 30 or bigger. I have the 15 and the speaker is a weak link, plus you can't use the footswitch, no usb, etc.

I have been dealing with ams for several years and have always had a positive experience with them. As for the emgs I will give them a try but prob going to rip em out and put some suhr pipe or BG' s.

Honestly the difference is negligible in my opinion. For $399, you won't find many, if any new guitars equipped with an emg 81/85 set, and the features that this one has. This is an extremely nice guitar at this price.
