Are Roadrunner cases any good?

Looking for a hard shell case for my new Japanese Paisley Strat... I considered Gator (which I've heard good things about) but Guitar Center is hosting a 20% off promotion on Roadrunner cases...are they just as good as Gator?

I was looking at the Tweed Hardshell Case. I want something that will hold up (I don't gig a whole lot) and protect my instrument.

Gracias

Not familiar with their hardcases. But their deluxe gig bags are very nice for any standard size and shape bass or guitar. I have one in red, The accessories pocket is also useable unlike some, enough room and all for cord, cleaning cloth, extra set of strings. Well made and well padded.

The only problem I see is the darn latches on the side...they are the old luggage type that you have to click into place and those buggers are difficult to open. I'm almost thinking the extra $20 is worth it for a Gator. I like the offset neck placement in the Roadrunners though if you know what I mean. Decisions, decisions....

+1

I own a black RR gig bag and I can fit a ton of stuff in it. The build quality is excellent.

The Musicians Gear cases are simply awful. Do not. I repeat. Do not. Couldn't stand one two-week run with my band. Ended up having to hold my guitar between my legs from town to town. Rubbish.

Haha, thanks for the fair warning! :thu:

I was reading a couple reviews and was horrified. I guess they are right!

Was looking at the Roadrunner molded cases when I bought my LP. Was comparing them to an SKB. Latches felt cheap, plastic felt much more flimsy, and the handle didn't fell secure at all. They had one on clearance that had a crack in it. They said they would sell me the SKB for $99, so that was a no-brainer. I've had Gators, Musician's Gear cases, SKBs and others. SKB is the best, IMO...but Gator is pretty close.

The musician's gear cases I've owned (one for an LP, 2 acoustics including one tweed, and a mandolin) were actually pretty good cases. Not as good as a $100+ case, but I caught them on sale for $40...so was pretty happy with them. Still have the mando case.

I have that exact case and it's great! It is a copy of the old Fender style and other than lacking a Fender logo it looks exactly the same. I bought mine after a La Guardia baggage handler drove a cart over my molded SKB case and crushed it. The guitar inside (miraculously) survived, but I needed a case to get home so I picked up the Roadstar case at a GC on Long Island.

It has been through I dunno how many airport baggage carousels and while it definitely looks like a case that's been on the road, the interior is still perfect. Knock on wood, no damage to any guitar that has traveled inside it. :thu:

I've got a roadrunner foam "case" for my Hamer, it's basically a rectangular gig bag, and I like the case alot. It does a decent job of protecting my guitar, and it has storage like a gig bag. I didn't know that I was going to like it at first, but I can't complain. It might not be quite as sturdy, but it beats the crap out of lugging around a super heavy wooden case. As long as you treat the case like your guitar is in it, then you'll be fine.

I have two Roadrunner hardshells Dreadnought size. I keep my Gretsch 5120 in one and my Ibanez acoustic in the other. Both those fit decently in them, the have held up great for the occasional transportation i do with them. I would't expect them to last forever if one was gigging, but for the money its a good deal. I never looked at their electric cases, so i cant comment on the inside, i would imagine its a typical universal case.

I have an SKB that my Epi SG is in, it seems to be comperable but just slightly better to the Roadrunner.
