Members Alchemist
So I kind of miss my all mahogany G&L Legacy, however, if I were to make it "better", there are a few things I would change.... so I am going to try and build it, wish me luck I want to give it a natural finish, but I dont really like the brown tone of mahogany, so I went with a solid one piece of sapelle.... very similar to mahogany, but it has a nicer orange/redish glow and I liked the figuring on the piece I bought (24x4x14 block).... very nice, not cheap, so I better not f@#k it up I wasnt completely into the mahogany neck and high gloss finish on the G&L, so I ordered a flame maple/indian rosewood strat from the warmoth showcase, with a very dark FB, I didnt want ebony, but the fretboard on my G&L was too light, so I want darker this time around...... the neck is finished in satin nitro... As well, I didnt ever use the trem on the G&L, so I am going shaller hard tail on this one. For pickups, I loved the JB in the bridge, so this guitar gets a JB in the bridge, but I thought the singles on the G&L were too tame and a little noisy, so for now, this guitar gets dimarzio stacked singles in the middle and neck.... All the hardware is going to be black, pickguard is tort, I ordered planet waves locking trim tuners because well.... I like them... I still have to order a few more odds and ends from Stew Mac. Progress will be slow, but hopefully in a few months I will have a nice guitar haha heres a mock up...

Members Alchemist
I'm in. I'd go gold on this one, but black is also cool. the mock-up makes the black look dull.... the actual parts will be high gloss black, and the guitar will have a lighter orange gloss colour I originally wanted gold, but the upcharge on going all gold hardware turned out to be an extra $100 or so.... over the black, which is already like $40 more than nickel.... so I figured, go black for this one haha I'm trying not to spend too much the wood was $70, but my dad bought that for me (very nice of him), hes an experienced wood worker with all the shop tools I could need, he is helping me with the body.. the neck, I snagged off the warmoth screaming deals for $195, not bad considering it would have cost me $305 to get it regularly the pickups I already had, so thats a big savings overall, this is going to cost me about $450.... which is pretty darn good for a guitar made of higher end parts and fairly nice wood
Members Selsaral
Hey that's really cool. Tell me more about the stacked singles you're planning on using please.

Members Selsaral
Ah, well what does the 'stacked' part mean? The MF listing describes it as a single coil pickup? Also, how are you going to finish the body?
Members Alchemist
I'm giving it high gloss poly, but I am doing it very thin.... so just a few coats with lots of buffing I'm no expert on pickups, but if you lift the cover, its not just one bobbin, its like two thin single coils stacked on top of each other.... you dont get the same hum as you would with regular singles (which I actually prefer in most cases)
Members Selsaral
Interesting, cool. Looking forward to pics as you start cutting on that body blank.
Members billybilly
Cool, I like the pickup combination you chose. For me though, I would go black pickguard and black the top of the neck (front only), like the special run mahogany strats, their hot. Have fun! I thought of tortoise pickguard because my G&L had it, and it looked pretty cool... but I havent ordered it yet, so not 100% sold on it either What I would really love is a very dark, glossy, black paisley pickguard, but no clue where to get one.... if any of you guys know, that would be greatly appreciated!!! as far as the neck goes, it looked really dark in the warmoth stock photos... should be here in a week or two, if its not dark enough, I can always get the fretboard dye from stew mac this was my G&L for reference
