Hey all,

Thought some might want to see this: it is a new 'Inspired By' Casino that I've been drooling over for a while. The pics don't do the finish justice, by a long shot.

Enjoy!

Cheers,

Glenn

Nice looking guitar. The insprired by Lennon engraving and the made in china sticker did make me laugh though.

Me too! The sticker is going to go as soon as I am 100% sure I am keeping it (I'm around 99.9999999999% right now).

This is a very cool guitar. Once set up by my luthier, and it will be absolutely killer. The American P90s definitely have more bite and dynamic range than the ones on my Korean Bigsby model. I lusted after the 'Limited Edition' Lennon Casinos, but I don't have

This was the second real guitar I owned. It was an original Gibson made 60s model. I had owned a 60s Vox with active electronics previously.

The Riviera was a much better guitar than the Casino ever was back in the day. Really fast slim neck too. Casions were budget guitars in comparison at the time like a squier is to a fender now but Lennon making the Casio popular is what kept them around.

Harrison and Lenon did have theirs specially built for them though and no production model is going to compare. Harrison got his first the Lennon. Both were a sunburst till Lennon removed the finish. I believe his original Casino has been restored back to the Sunburst finish last time I read by Yoko. Sound wise you'd be better using an actual Gibson 335 though with p90s if you want to get close to the beatles sound. No chineese plywood reproduction will get very close to the sound in comparison.

They do make a new Rivieras too. Why have a Casio with two P90s when you can have this for less.

Unless I'm grievously mistaken (and if I am, it wouldn't be the first time) ...

Macca was first, and he got a Casino before either John or George got theirs.

...truth, but its not like he played it in the Beatles much...Lennon and the Casino are just as linked as Macca and the Hofner...Harrisons model had a Bigsby, although it is often confused with his Gibson ES- 345 TD...theres a video clip of Lennon cursing his Casino during the recording of his Imagine album, ima see if I can find it...

...and to the OP, is that a satin finish on the neck?...

...edit...

I am not sure what the finish is, but the closest thing would be a satin finish, yes. Not the glossy polyester, or poly-whatever, the standard Casinos (and the Elitists) are dipped in. The finish is almost non-existent, which makes for a much more vibrant guitar. Paul played his Casino on Taxman, Good Morning! Good Morning! and others.

Cheers,

Glenn

First,

Second, a 335 is semihollow and has humbuckers. Not quite the same.

Third, as far as being made in China, they mastered the production line over a thousand years ago. They invented printing, gunpowder, porcelain, etc. Anyone who says the Chinese don't know how to build stuff is friggin delusional. Some of the finest woodwork and, of course, CHINA, comes from China.

Lastly, way to piss on a parade. Sheez.

Looks cool! HNGD! Is that a matt finish on the headstock?

Yep. Not the shiny poly-whatever I had expected. It is very tastefully done.

It will be even more tasteful once the 'Hand-crafted in China' sticker is removed.

Cheers,

Glenn

As far as the plastic nut, I've seen a LOT of real, honest-to-goodness gosh darn GIBSONS that look like they have plastic nuts on them, right from the good ol' US of A factory. :idk:

I could be wrong though. Wouldn't be the first time.

Play the heck outta that thing in the best of health, Glenn. :)
