Members Johnny Two Tone
Eating well and exercising is always a great idea but with that said the American standard BMI is an outdated, irrelevant bunch of non-sense.
Members ashasha
Great idea and best of luck to you. Be sure to put some pictures of those bad boys around you to keep you on track...perhaps one on the fridge and a wallpaper on your PC or something. Now I'm in the same boat. I've always been active until I had a back injury a few years ago and my nerves started going haywire. I tried some dieting; thought I was doing it right and it was a mess. I thought that I was going insane; the doctors thought I had MS and all kinds of {censored} going on. Turns out that I've had obstructive sleep apnea for almost 20 years now (even when 'skinny'). I've been on a CPAP for a few months and it's helped a lot with the mental part. But what I didn't realize when I started dieting was that I cut out too much fat. Apparently Vitamin D needs fat in order to be digested or whatever the hell it does. I'm extremely Vit D deficient which is funny since I am definitely not starving. One of the side effects is weight gain. I've been taking prescribed Vit D supplements (with some fatty foods) and I've been starting to get my health back together. So if I had it to do all over again I'd be sure to take a multivitamin (which for some reason I never seem to keep up on) and get plenty of sunlight (which is hard this time of year). Also don't get too caught up in the fat's and {censored}; count calories. The best results I ever had was just cutting every meal into a 1/3 of normal portion size. One other thing is that I've been taking so many pills the last few years that I know that I'm just a toxic mess. I'm highly considering doing that lemonade/maple syrup detox. I've got a few students that did it and said that they felt amazing afterwards. Plus it's a quick 10-20 pounds between the cleaning and the fat that you end up burning in a 10 day period. I figure that restart of the system after a good purge can't be bad. Anyone try one of those things? I'm kind of worried about doing it and being at work to be perfectly honest and unfortunately kind of disgusting.

Members Stinkfoot
I've been using that same iphone app. I'm 5'5 and weigh between 145 - 155 depending on clothing and time of day. I'm trying to get down to 125. I tried going to 1250 calories / day and that was just too hard. I changed to 1.5 lbs per week instead of 2 and that upped my calories to 1460. It's tough because as a single parent working full time, there is only so much time in the day for exercise. I found on the list of exercises, guitar playing (sitting and standing) both burn a decent amount of calories. I do walk and bike whenever I can. Occasionally lift weights and do sit ups and push ups but it seems really slow going for me. I've been dropping then gaining then dropping then gaining, etc. no matter what I do. Part of my thinking is that I need to get the fat % down even more than it is. I must have a super slow metabolism. I've also had a desk job for 15 years. I used to play basketball until I {censored}ed up my ankles multiple times. I also have chronic leg/back pain so that makes it difficult to do anything really active (cardio type stuff). I'm enjoying being more health conscious in any case whether I lose the weight or not. At least I'll know that I'm eating healthy food. Good luck. Lots of good advice here. I think it all boils down to less food (quality vs quantity) + exercise.
Members 55gibby
I'm 6'0" and at one time got to almost 300 lbs. I made several life changes and now I'm down to 190 lbs. My weight blew up when I had a nasty back injury so I had to come up with a plan that didn't involve weights or heavy cardio. I did this "eat as many different foods in a day, as you can" thing I read about. I did it so my wife would have sex with me again

Members Angry Tele
this last 10lbs is a bitch to get rid of. Its funny my goal keeps changing, at first I just wanted to lose 20 lbs and after I did that I wanted to lose 10 more, now Im in the best shape of my life but still could loose a few inches of fat around the belly. I haven't ran in a few weeks but now its warm again Im going to start again. The difference for me when not running is I lose about 1 lbs per week, when running this almost doubles. American clothes no longer fit me now, I have to buy Japanese brands and British brands now. The only exceptions are H&M (Sweden) slim fitting small shirts fit me perfect, and some of the Target One Star brands fit. Both Levis and Gap jeans size 28 are baggy on me and thats the smallest size they sell haha

However, I question the difficulty of your task vs. the reward.. If you were 400lbs trying to get down to 150, then yeah, that's a huge task that'll take several years to accomplish. That certainly deserves a nice reward.. But 25lbs? That's not really that much. I can't set your goal, nor your reward, and I woudln't try. But if I told me wife "I'm going to lose 25 pounds and reward myself with a $3000 guitar", she'd laugh at me.. FYI, my current goal of getting my mechanical engineering degree comes with a similar reward, cept mine is gonna be a Jackson USA custom of some sort.. Members Chairborne
I made this bargain with my wife -- if I lost 10 lbs, she would agree to me spending absurd amounts of money on a PRS. It worked! I lost the weight, bought the guitar, and have since gained it all back. Ah but if you still have the guitar you are still ahead . . . "If you gain back the weight, you have to sell your guitar and buy me a Dillard's gift card with the proceeds."

I hear what you're saying, because 25lbs doesn't sound like a lot. But I'm already 35lbs less than my highest weight, so this is like the middle step in a process I've been trying to complete for a dozen years now. I've lost the first 10lbs of this 25 many times, and then gained it back. Let me put it this way, there's no way my wife would have gone for it if she thought it was going to be a trivial endeavor. I also wouldn't part with that amount of money for a guitar unless I made it mean something. I still might not even get the fancy thing, but just thinking about it and imagining that it's real is making a difference.

Just remember to avoid sweets and fats. Eat whole grains. Drink skim milk. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. Take long walks for bout 45 minutes to an hour everyday. Members DeadNight Warrior
Lost 3 lbs during the first week. So far so good. I think I've narrowed down my guitar choice to a Suhr Pro, either the M1 (rosewood) or M2 (maple): Not that the Suhrs are going to be a bad choice, but if you really want something like that Universe, I'm sure you could easily get a custom done (even with the proper pyramid inlays and Ibanez and Universe logos) for far less than whatever ridiculous price Ibanez are asking for the reissue. I know ET Guitars here in Australia are basically all about doing Ibanez clones, namely RGs, JEMs and UVs.
Members KGrob
I'm embarrassed to say I'm not in shape. According to the BMI standard, I'm on the high side of overweight. I have fought it for over a decade now, with little success. Now that I'm heading into my mid-life crisis time-frame, I'm worried about how it's affecting my health.... Good luck Bro. I wish you all the best and I hope you succeed beyond your wildest dreams.
Members poolshark
Good to hear that you're making progress. One or two things: 1. Don't go by BMI, ever. Seriously, not ever. If you read up on the history of it, even the creator recognized it as something of a croc. It's really just an imprecise, arbitrary scale that people like to use, even though it has nothing to do with body fat percentage and actual fitness. Most athletes, even the apparently lean ones like myself, would be considered overweight, or even obese. Go for looks, health and feel. 2. When I lost weight, the simple fact came to this: Eat less food, get more activity. Eating a healthy diet is great, but too many calories is still too many; if you're dying for food but want to avoid calories, go with green vegetables. If you're looking for real results, you'll need more activity than simply taking the stairs, or some such thing. I like to schedule regular activity - running, lifting - but some people like variation. 4. There is a weight/health bottom threshold, and a healthy weight for everyone. My healthy playing weight floats around 200, and my minimum is around 180-185, which I'll never break in good health. You'll know when you hit your threshold, and regardless of your goals, I recommend you respect it. 3. Most importantly, you need to recognize weight loss as a permanent change. Train yourself into a lifestyle that you can live with on a permanent basis, and you'll be much happier.

Members JoeFatFish
It took me 3 months to loose 30 lbs and I did not starve myself. I ate lean meats, no sodas or deserts, lots of grains pastas etc.. no fried foods, and I ran like a muther{censored}er. 3 mile runs 4 or 5 times a week the lbs melted off in no time, plus I did weight training 3-4 times a week. I would splurge on weekends meaning I eat some pizza or a burger, for sure beer. Its just a matter of eating the right foods and getting your lazy ass moving. And you gotta indulge a little one a week or else you will crack and be that fat {censored} again in 2 days time. 25lbs is a lot. It took me 6 months to lose 30 lbs.
