You can easily do this with no fad diets- I used to be 240- right now I'm about 166- should weigh 150 for my height and frame so I'm getting close- you are actually getting some fairly decent advice- low sugar, no pop, appropriate protein, don't go "no carb" crazy-Adkins is not healthy for your body, but try to cut down on really horribly processed things with tons of high fructose corn syrup in it- trust me, if there is a lot of it in there, its probably not that good for you and will end up making you fat. Remember, it takes 3500 calories for you to loose a pound so even a deficit of 500 calories a day over a week will do the trick. Good Luck. Wish I'd thought of the weight to guitar deal, but I buy things anyway and my wife hasn't killed me so far :thu:

......... He dropped a lot of carbs and crap food (like cokes and chips and ice cream), replaced them with lean proteins, and then just cycled through a lot of different typed of exercises at our gym. He said he noticed the most difference after cardio workouts, so if you can ride a bike, I recommend doing that for at least 30 mins daily.
You will not only see a difference but just feel a lot better overall
.

This.

Of course if you are very over weight, get a check up and get help with the exercise part. You may need to start simply walking instead of driving or lifts.

I have lost all the weight I put on since quitting smoking by careful eating and exercise. So did my wife.

BTW I am not that kind of doctor - read the disclaimer.

Just remember the diet is where its at. Exercising will get you in shape, maybe help the metabolism a bit, but you need to do ridiculous amounts of exercise if you want to burn away the fat. So dont celebrate one hour at the gym with half a liter of cola.

In the end, its all down to burning more than you get in. You'll burn a decent amount a day just by being awake and walking around. You'd be surprised how far most people can get just by switching out all drinks for water and dropping fast-food.

Losing weight is easy on paper. Actually you only have to keep the balance between the calories you eat and spend negative.

Unfortunately in real life there's a {censored}load of factors involved, from metabolism, sedentary life, exercise, smoking, etc...

stress is the killer for me. When I'm not stressed I lose weight.

for my "diet" i will only ever cut out excess sugars, i.e. coke, sweets etc. On it's own, i maintain about a 10-15 pound weight lose. I won't take out other parts that compromise my overall health for weight loss though, so if i want to lose more, I usually up the water intake and hit the gym, but i'm usually to busy for that.

All you need to do is drink a ton of water before your first weigh in and stick some ankle weights on.

Then you'll only have to lose about 10lbs.

I know someone who wore ankle weights to a Dr appt to try and qualify for gastric bypass surgery.

Didn't work for him, although he has lost the weight and competes in ironman triathlons and marathons. I'm running a half marathon with him in a couple months.

Something that has been working for me lately:

1. Stay away from sugar and fats. Avoid them like the plague. Don't worry about "essential fatty acids" and "hypoglycemia"...if you eat regular natural foods you'll get all that stuff anyway.

2. Seek out clean protein like fish and chicken and beans.

3. Don't eat late at night. If you go to bed hungry, you'll probably not wake up that way....just thinner.

4. Finally I'm noticing that if I take this supplement called resveratrol with meals, it makes me feel more full and less hungry after eating less food and more of that satified feeling after eating just vegetables and not heavy stuff.

It comes from grapes and red wine and I'm probably taking more than I should...sometimes four 250mg tablets a day....but there's no FDA guidelines on it being dangerous so it's a big experiment...Take that FWIW

I'm embarrassed to say I'm not in shape. According to the BMI standard, I'm on the high side of overweight. I have fought it for over a decade now, with little success. Now that I'm heading into my mid-life crisis time-frame, I'm worried about how it's affecting my health.

At the same time, I admitted to my wife that I have an unjustified but serious case of GAS for the 7-string Ibanez Universe reissue (UV77REMC):

Everyone I know thinks this guitar is ugly, but I spent a long time listening to Passion and Warfare, and staring at pictures of these in Guitar World when I was around 18, and there's something magical about it to me.

So I made a deal with my wife. If I lose 25 lbs, and keep it off for six months, I can pretty much buy whatever guitar I want. It's an idea so crazy, I think it will work!

Edit: I didn't realize how limited this run was going to be. Only 60 are being made, and I just found out that the guitar is at least $2k over my (admittedly insane) limit. Too bad, I wanted one to play, not as a collector's item. I'll probably keep it under $2500 out the door. Need to start thinking of alternatives!

Great idea! Maybe give yourself a $100 toward a guitar for every pound, and that'll push you even more.

Try doing some weight lifting...muscles are furnaces that burn energy/calories/fat.

Ever see those P90X commercials? That isn't the answer for everyone but that system works wonders. The thing is that it can discourage a lot of people because it requires dedication and it requires time...about an hour per day and some days about an hour and a half.

I'm fortunate in that I asked my parents for a set of weights when I was about 10. I don't know why I did but they got me a set of 10 pound dumbells and I used them a lot. About 2 or 3 years later I asked for a large barbell set (large compared to the dumbells). I've always worked out and it has been the thing that has helped me through the worst times and helped me excel in the best of times.

Exercise worked for me, no change in diet. I first lost about 35lb when I got a job at a grocery store when I started college, then later lost another 45lb when I started do alot of cardio and weight lifting. I do at least an hour of cardio 5-6 days a week and lift weights every four days or so. I eat alot more now than when I was overweight, 3000-3500 calories a day.
