Members rakester
I had a random thought earlier today. I am int he process of building a tele at the moment and something struck me which I hadn't really thought about. It is a bolt on (standard fender fitment and alignment) however when screwing in the neck I started to think will the size of the screws used for neck plate need to be longer / shorter for the thickness of the body wood I am using? The screw I have are just the standard ones that came with the neck plate. Pretty much what I am asking is, how far in do the screw have to go into the neck when screwing the neck to the body? I ask as the body blank I have used is quite thick. Thanks
Members Hotrod Lincoln
Is you're tele extra thick or something?
Members rakester
Is you're tele extra thick or something? Yup, not massively over size, I purposely made it a bit thicker. I don't think it will actually be an issue but just wanna check the screws go in far enough.
Members stormin1155
If your body is 3/16" or more thicker I'd definately get longer screws.
Members Quarter
...the body blank I have used is quite thick ...... not massively over size, I purposely made it a bit thicker ... Your going to need to translate how much a "bit" is in either metric or SAE. More important is measure the thickness of the body wood in the neck pocket. Members rakester
Yeah I should have added more information, I currently don't have the project to hand and I believe the body is just shy of 2" thick. However I can't confirm that as I have a major mind block at the moment
Members newbuilder
Absolutely...you have to contact enough wood or you might have to plug and redrill those holes when they strip out.
Members rakester
Cool, I have screw the neck in yet in anyway. I planned on countersinking the neck screw so I don't need to use a neck plate. I'll get back to you all when the time comes closer to fitting the neck Another question: How long does a custom order neck take from Warmoth? Not sure but I do remember seeing the basic time listed on their site.
Members Elias Graves
That neck plate is there for a reason. You might have problems if you don't use it. There's a lot of stress on that joint. EG
Members DaleH
I think a Fender tele neck heal it 5/8" thick.
Members schoolie1
I believe the tele neck heel is 1 inch thick and the standard neck screws are 1.75"...and you need the neck plate

Once one of the screws I was using was too long and it went all the way through the neck and pushed up one of the frets out of its place.
