Members soundcreation
Do you happen to know which Japanese factory makes Yamaha's Archtops & higher end L series acoustics? No, sorry I don't know much about yamaha. Even with the other japanese guitars it can be difficult to determine which factory makes them. Fujigen could be making guitars for many companies right now. I will say I haven't noticed yamaha's name attached to them in any "internet rumors".
Members Brewski
from the few i have seen in stores, Godin makes a premium guitar, but I think PRS does it on a larger scale.if only PRS didnt have like a 10 foot thick finishes. i cant stand that with PRS and thats why i dont own one. what do you mean? they look deep because of the woods not the finish. I've been to the factory for a persona tour twice and it's exciting and the reason why I got one for my 25th Anniversary! They have great Q/C.......my friend is the Q/C manager so my opinion is a bit suspect.

Members guitarmandp
lololol I am not joking. Every Gibson that I've bought in the past couple of years has played incredible, the one exception was my Korina V (which reminds me, I need to raise the action on that). Every other Gibson I've bought plays incredible. That 50th Anniversary 1960 V2 Les Paul and the Jimmy Page #2 I got play incredible. All of the custom shop Gibson's made in Nashville (don't know about the Gibson USA or Gibson Memphis guitars) get PLEK'd so they are guarantee to play incredible. I'm guessing most people on here who post about bad experiences with Gibson are trying them out at Guitar Center. Go watch how customers treat the guitars they play at GC. Most guitars at GC (Gibsons include) sit on the shelves for years while customers who have no disregard for them just beat the crap out of them. You'd be amazed at the disregard customers have for these guitars. This is why mom & pop stars are picky about who plays their nice guitars (and then people come on this very board and whine about how the local mom & pop store wouldn't let them play the $5,000 guitar on the wall but GC would) I'm guilty of it this too. I remember when I was a teenager trying out a $2,000 ESP Ron Wood signature model at MARS Music (now out of business) and I accidentally banged it into an amp putting a giant ding in it. Members Jkater
I don't have experience with many that were mentioned but from my limited experience (and who doesn't have a "limited" experience actually. :poke: ), I'd say the $1,500+ Japanese made Yamahas QC is uncanny and defies comprehension. Their lower to mid-range stuff has really good QC but the japanese stuff is all together in another class.
Members Elias Graves
I'll have to go with Yamaha and Godin along with PRS. They make good stuff, that's for sure. At the prices they get, they should be nice. EG

At the prices they get, they should be nice. EG You can say that again.....I'd have to say PRS even though I am not a huge fan of anything besides the 513 which I've been considering very strongly. The video that Pete linked to in another thread of the factory and neck building really answered a lot of the 'why are they so expensive' questions IMHO. I mean the work that goes into the neck and the QC for selecting the woods is insane.

Members Musicscotty
Another vote for Yamaha here - and also Godin on a smaller scale. I've yet to see anything other than top quality QC on any of their guitars. PRS can - and does - get let down by the odd howler from their SE line.
