Members timmay8612
Picked up my Carvin CT yesterday, still not jiving with the pups. Maybe I should have traded it after all instead of buying a cheaper strat Anywho, I've never owned anything with P90s, but am interested. Is there such a thing as a P90 that I can put in the Carvin without having to route it? Will it be unbearably bright if I do? Its already a really bright instrument. I'm also wondering if the pickups are just really high output or something. Its like there is little dynamic range with them, and the way they push my amp is just night and day compared to my 335 or Strat. Its almost crackly or brittle sounding. Do I just need a vintage spec 'bucker instead?

Members PunkKitty
Any cheaper options out there? Anybody with Carvin experience who can tell me about pickup output and all that cool stuff?Sure, there are cheaper options from GFS and other vendors. But you won't find better for the price than the BG Pure 90. Why go for something off the shelf when you can have hand made to your specs for the same price or less? Members ieso
Don't know what your budget is but in my opinion the best are Harmonic Design Z-90s Here is the sound of a Z-90 in the bridge position: http://www.reverbnation.com/infiniteego#/artist/song_details/3607876 Check 'em out: http://www.harmonicdesign.net/allpages/gibsons.html (scroll down a bit) Good enough for Bill Frisell, good enough for me. Members Assumer
Doesn't Duncan or Dimarzio make a pickup that can be used as a single coil, P90,or Humbucker?
Members xStonr
BG for sure or give Vintage Vibe some consideration.
Members soundgardener75
Doesn't Duncan or Dimarzio make a pickup that can be used as a single coil, P90,or Humbucker? That would be the SD P-Rails. I personally recommend them. Otherwise, the SD Phat Cats are awesome. This dude sure rocks his Gibson Classic LP with 'em with a Peavey VTM 60. Members Quarter
will p90s warm up my sound? The right ones can. What I'd suggest is getting in touch with Bryan at BG-Pups and talk to him about what your looking for. He can and will do custom winds if needed to dial you in. You might actually decide that a proper voiced humbucker may be the solution for you and Bryan is the guy to guide you.
Members cratz2
Yeah, comparing most P90s to most humbuckers, humbuckers are usually 'warmer'. I have a set of the BG Pure 90s and I think they are great, but I had a set of GMS Mean 90s and thought they were pretty awesome as well. Still, sounds to me like you just want some better humbuckers.
Members Acid Test
It might be easier for us to give you some help if we knew what budget you had in mind. As far as warmth, I normally don't think of P-90s. P-90s are more raspy, biting, and crunchy sounding to me. Mississippi Queen by Mountain and Ring of Fire by Social Distortion, for example. Members Shamdog
BG Pure90's and never look back.... This if you want P90s. I'd talk to Bryan before you buy anything and tell him what you're loking for. His prices are CHEAP for what you get.
