Members Alchemist
So in the past few days I checked out several american special teles because I was kind of gassing at the idea of having a tele for recording somethings.... and the thought of getting a new glossy MIA tele for $800 seemed right.... not one that I looked at didnt have quality control issues... I was dissapointed neck pockets that were too large.... misalligned bridge where you could see the pickup routing peeking through at the side of the bridge (I really hate that), slight bubble in the pickguard little things that on a squier wouldnt matter, but I guess this is what they mean by special I'm going back to the used market for an MIA standard or deluxe
Members pekelnik
It is the "special education" kind of special.
Members steve_man
Yeah, just seemed like a Highway One with a poly finish to me. Not a big fan of the Highway series...don't like jumbo frets...so I didn't care for these, either.
Members atrox
misalligned bridge where you could see the pickup routing peeking through at the side of the bridge (I really hate that), Just about every Fender tele I have ever had in has this. It's their stock bridge size, not the alignment. Most after-market bridges cover it up. That said, i'm not happy with most newer Tele's that have come in lately. They are all set up so bad from the factory.
Members Alchemist
yeah I've noticed the bridge thing on others, this one seemed a little more pronounced.... like 3mm, its pretty obvious against a light finish

I'm building a tele like the one you did for Mind Riot. I think I'll wait with the bridge pickup route until I actually have the bridge in. (It is a JB and got knows when it gets here)

I forget how well they cover that rout though. I seem to remember them fitting over it fine. I have one on order now, but it's backordered till the end of this week. I ordered it from allparts UK, which don't have it so its coming from allparts US, I have no idea if they have it on stock and I want it now and here The allparts status just says backordered: parts allocated. No idea what that means.

Members Selsaral
Yeah it's kinda wierd when, in my experience, the MIMs are at an all-time high in qc right now.
Members steve_man
I just can't figure out why one would buy one of these for $799 with a gig bag, when with a 10% off coupon, you could get an Am. Standard with nice hardshell case for a little over $100 more?

Hell, anyone should be able to get an American Standard for less than $900 out the door any day of the week without a coupon...Unless of course they are one of those haggling averse types that think they have to pay full price and can only get a discount with a coupon. Members Willyguitar
I have a slight pimple on my arse, which I believe probably prevented me from finding a girlfriend for years. Also, the toe nail on the large toe of my left foot is just a bit too long. These imperfections bother me. ... for god's sake, it's a bloody guitar, not the Mona Lisa. Just play the {censored}er and decide whether it plays well, and sounds good. Who in your audience (if you have one) gives a flying {censored}adoo whether there are tiny gaps here and there? Members ashtray
As for price - you can usually find 15% off (20% at special times of the year) - so that $800 becomes as low as $640...

Members Guitar Heel
The misaligned bridge is also a staple of the Hwy 1 series, from which these bodies originate. Bugs me too.
Members boxorox
I got a Hwy ! to replace my '73, which was stolen by crackheads. I like it a lot, but I looked, and danged if there ain't that gap there. After I bought it, I got my '73 back after about two years MIA. So I looked at it, and danged if it didn't have that gap there. Smaller, but still there. For a second there, I felt like somebody dropped a dookey in my punch bowl. Then I figgered if I hadn't noticed it in 37 years, why should it bother me now? {censored}adoo, fellers! Oh, yeah... You can't see it on either one if you put the ash-tray on. Members twotimingpete
I have nothing against the specials but if I was going to drop an amount of money on a strat or a tele that's considerably north of $500, it's gonna be an american standard! because why the {censored} not? legacy item, you want the staple axe! I agree, butI have had people tell me that my buying at 20% off is ruining the value of the instruments. I still think, the $200 savings for a Special with a gigbag over an American Standard with a Hard case is really only a $50 savings.I am sure you could go in to your local GC and tell them to skip the case and you could buy the American Standard for $899 before any discounts. Members C-4
I have seen off shore Fenders and other guitars with a nice tight fit in the neck pocket. American Fenders never seem to have this tight fitting pocket. There really is no excuse for this anymore with the machinery, which is perfectly capable of doing it right the first time. It is possibly the workers doing the finishing on these american Fenders that are causing the fit to be off. In any case, there is just no excuse for this, whatever the reason is. Standard with nice hardshell case for a little over $100 more? wellA) I dont live in the US, so any concept you have about prices, throw them out the window, they dont apply here..... B) I dont really like teles, but I want to add that bridge tele tone to some recordings, so $840 Canadian versus $1200 Canadian for a standard is substantial... I dont care about the gigbag, I have plenty of nice cases I keep stored away, I keep my guitars out on racks in a humidified room, so the gigbag doesnt bother me....C) I like to try before I buy, so I would not order one, and after having seen all the imperfections, I am glad I didnt
