Members Willyguitar
OK, another amp question (sorry). What do people think of the Marshall VM. Again, I tried one ages ago that I quite liked and may be able to score one much reduced. I remember it doing decent cleans and gentle break up for a Marshall. Anyone have one, played one on here? Members krish
The lead guitarist from my band and I tried one out in a guitar shop a little while ago. We both thought it was very good, and had it's own thing going on whilst still keeping the good things about being Marshall. For what it is, I think Marshall have made a great amp. But... it is essentially a single channel amp (there are low and high modes that can basically act like a clean and crunch channels but it really doesn't seem to work so well that way). I personally need a bit more versatility from my amps but I'm sure some would love it the way it is. Of course, using the volume control on your guitar to control clean/drive works great with this amp, but it's not that practical for my personal set-up, but again I'm sure some would love this. I thought the mid-boost was a good addition, but I find it ridiculous that it isn't footswitchable or more adjustable. I have a DSL 50 that despite being a great amp has similar short comings in terms of some things not being footswitchable that really should be, and I just don't get how Marshall didn't address things like that with this amp. In honesty, despite what I said in the last paragraph, if the mid boost was foot switchable I'd probably have bought the amp by now.
Members Willyguitar
I really enjoyed listening to the songs on your page. Yes - I see that point... I think I could probably cope with the lack of two channels if the core sounds are good, and presumably adding mid boost could be fixed with a pedal of some sort. Thanks for the thoughts though. Members notcool
I've tried a few of the new Marshalls, including the VM. The VM is okay as a guitar amp - it grinds pretty good, but it doesn't have enough lower mids for my liking. The JVM series sounds a little better. But the VM sounds way better to my ears than the JCM2000 DSL series.
