Members timmay8612
I seem to remember reading a thread with some kind of fret polishing paper or fabric that wouldn't require taping off the fretboard, but I can't seem to find it. Anybody have a clue what this product was? Anybody have other methods which aren't messy and don't require taping?
Members RaVenCAD
Go to any drug store and buy a fingernail polishing stick. They're like $2.. Usually they're pink, white and black, and each color is a different grit. They're paper on foam, so they conform to the fret perfectly. I've used these for years and if you are careful, you don't have to worry about taping anything. Works great for removing tarnish and light grooving, without worrying about removing too much of the fret..

Members bsman
These don't scratch the fretboard/neck at all? The sides are just foam, so as long as you aren't all thumbs, I don't see why they would...
Members Bro Blue
Planet Waves makes them. I use them and they work well. They come with a template to put over the fret so you don't scratch the board.

Oh so the rough texture doesn't cover 100% of the surface? That way I can put the foamy part on the board and the scratchy part on the fret? Members ashtray
The nail buffing boards are thin so as long as your frets aren't uber low, you should be touching the fretboard. You still need to use caution.
Members Lobsterbush
I don't understand why OP is so worried about avoiding taping the fretboard:confused:. It is not difficult at all and doesn't take as long as it seems it would. I would rather be safe than sorry. I tape and use the nail buffing sticks.
