when i listen to some novice player such as my self one of the biggies is not committing to the bend.. going half sharp or flat or not getting there.. god knows its not easy to get at first.. and its somthing i have worked on along with vibrato.. to become a stronger player.. but thats the one that comes to mind as far as being a lazy guitarist.. so thats one of the biggies for me..

so what are some more? this is not meant to be a troll post but im sure there are a few more sins of guitar playing..

all meant in good fun..

Thou Shall Not do half arsed bends..

I've kind of had this like... reformation over the past couple months.

I used to be real particular to tone and pitch and style and all that. I played in a more classical and traditional wind instrument setting prior to learning the guitar, so I was always thinking "in the box" so to speak.

Now I tend to lean in a different direction. Making music is such a joyful thing for me. Who am I to say "only play Gibsons, or guitar" or whatever. There are people who don't have ears as good as mine, or whatever. Should they be denied the joy of playing music? They won't ever get to play Busch Gardens something like that, but they can still enjoy it a lot.

So the short version is, in my mind you sin in guitar playing (or any musical endeavors) by being close minded.

This can include anything from interpreting a Jazz chart, to refusing to buy anything but a Fender or whatever. Staying inside the box can be dreadfully boring.

Playing through Line 6 gear. I know some dudes are gonna jump on that tell me how bad ass their Line 6 stuff is, but save it boys, my mind is made up until the quality of their gear goes up.

not all Line6 gear is created equal... but whatever your entitled to your opinion I will, on the other hand, enjoy my M13.

for me is always ending up playing the same thing no matter how much i try to avoid it there are some riffs that I always end up reverting to.

I also spend way too much time tone searching and not enough time becoming a better player

I used to feel bad about that but just about all of my idols are guilty of it as well. Knopfler, gilmour, SRV, Albert King, BB King etc. They all have their sort of signature riffs that pop up here or there, mixed and matched in different orders based on context.

So is it a rut, or is it just YOU? Your individuality expressed in your own style? :idk:

Strumming or pickin' just 'cause you can. Whole notes people; they exist. Ever watch a guitarist and know he can't help but grab one more note, insert one more flourish....doesn't see himself as part of the ensemble.

The endless wanking at the end of every song kills me when I see a band live. Ok sometimes, but after almost every song it just gets tiresome.
