Members scuzzo
when i listen to some novice player such as my self one of the biggies is not committing to the bend.. going half sharp or flat or not getting there.. god knows its not easy to get at first.. and its somthing i have worked on along with vibrato.. to become a stronger player.. but thats the one that comes to mind as far as being a lazy guitarist.. so thats one of the biggies for me..so what are some more? this is not meant to be a troll post but im sure there are a few more sins of guitar playing.. all meant in good fun.. Thou Shall Not do half arsed bends..
Members Floortom
The vast majority of players dont bend to pitch. Anyone with perfect pitch will tell you that.
Members ashasha
The one thing that always stands out to me is the vibrato. There are so many players out there that do it too fast or without feel. Good vibrato is very underrated.
Members kujozilla
Thou shalt not play banjo and guitar lest the banjo be of a 6 string-ed variety and heretofore must be tuned to a standard guitar tuning. (They make electric banjos so I stand by this.)
Members mrbrown49
I've noticed most novices just play way too hard, all the time with no dynamic range. Just bang bang bang.

Members benzem
Playing out of tune Not muting properly, creating a wall of noise.(and often not recocnizing the suck) Tuning and noodling, volume up, at or b4 a gig. Eating bacon while tapping.
Members sxyryan
I've kind of had this like... reformation over the past couple months. I used to be real particular to tone and pitch and style and all that. I played in a more classical and traditional wind instrument setting prior to learning the guitar, so I was always thinking "in the box" so to speak. Now I tend to lean in a different direction. Making music is such a joyful thing for me. Who am I to say "only play Gibsons, or guitar" or whatever. There are people who don't have ears as good as mine, or whatever. Should they be denied the joy of playing music? They won't ever get to play Busch Gardens something like that, but they can still enjoy it a lot. So the short version is, in my mind you sin in guitar playing (or any musical endeavors) by being close minded. This can include anything from interpreting a Jazz chart, to refusing to buy anything but a Fender or whatever. Staying inside the box can be dreadfully boring. Members Mac_C
Playing through Line 6 gear. I know some dudes are gonna jump on that tell me how bad ass their Line 6 stuff is, but save it boys, my mind is made up until the quality of their gear goes up. I also spend way too much time tone searching and not enough time becoming a better player

Members mrbrown49
for me is always ending up playing the same thing no matter how much i try to avoid it there are some riffs that I always end up reverting to. I used to feel bad about that but just about all of my idols are guilty of it as well. Knopfler, gilmour, SRV, Albert King, BB King etc. They all have their sort of signature riffs that pop up here or there, mixed and matched in different orders based on context. So is it a rut, or is it just YOU? Your individuality expressed in your own style?

Members mrbrown49
Oh oh oh! My biggest pet peeve is people that never change their strings. I don't know how many times I've picked up a guitar at a friends house to find blackened, rusty, dead strings. Dreadful.
Members DavidMgT
I think it is bad attitude. Guitar players can be, among other things, unnecessarily snobby and extremely judgmental (see the SRV wannabe/white guy/blues/strat thread as an example). Members notjonahbutnoah
I agree with that strings bit mrbrown, and I do hate poor muting. I really hate seeing two full stacks and an 810 bass cab in a hole in the wall pub.

Members bad mutha-humpa
Strumming or pickin' just 'cause you can. Whole notes people; they exist. Ever watch a guitarist and know he can't help but grab one more note, insert one more flourish....doesn't see himself as part of the ensemble. Members I40WEST
People strumming an acoustic too hard. I agree with this. The guitar becomes a drum kit instead of having any musical quality. Mine: playing scales and calling it a solo.

The endless wanking at the end of every song kills me when I see a band live. Ok sometimes, but after almost every song it just gets tiresome. Members mrbrown49
Musicians getting too drunk before, or even during a gig. Man I can't play drunk anymore. Beer used to go to my head, now I think it goes right to my hands. Nothing more annoying though than a drunk dude with a guitar.
