Members belovedmonster
I've got an Ibanez RGA that came with Ibanez active pickups, I just ordered some seymour duncans to go in it, but I'm wondering, will the pots be OK going from active to passive? I know how to solder but I don't know a single thing about guitar electrics.
Members smorgdonkey
Just check to see if the values are written on the pots. For active I think they should be 25K. Did you order Blackouts?
Members inkblot
Assuming it has the lower resistance (~25k) pots in there, you need to get 250k/500k pots to go with the passive pickups.

Members belovedmonster
Whats the difference between 250 and 500? Which do I need? I'm putting in a JB/Jazz set.
Members Belva
I need glasses. I thought you asked if your pot is ok. I haven't smoked any, so how could I know?

Go with 500. 250 are typically for single coils. JB is an excellent bridge pickup but I am not really keen on the Jazz in solidbody guitars-many people love them though. I love the Jazz in a hollow/semi-hollow. I think you'll be very happy if you lost your love of the active tone.
Members belovedmonster
Next question :-P Will I need pots with a long shaft? Seems they come in either regular and long. Its a rear routed Ibanez RGA (strat shape)
Members smorgdonkey
The best way to tell is to pull one of the existing pots and measure it. Then you KNOW and there is no guessing. A short shaft pot will typically be about an inch from the base of the pot to the end of the shaft. As Stew Mac puts it:standard pots have 3/8" long threaded portion of the shaft, and the long shaft pots have a 3/4" long threaded shaft
Members belovedmonster
Looks like I have a standard length then :-)
Members belovedmonster
Now I'm even more confused. Looking at pics online, the shorter pots look way shorter than mine (pictured above). optical illusion or is mine actually a long shaft?

If it's more than 10" go in the pron biz. Oh,wait. Different forum...........
