I have a 2002 DC standard. Beautiful quilted red top. As far as comparing it to a les paul. I really think they are two very different beasts. My DC is 24 frets and is either chambered or weight relieved. In my opinion sound wise it is almost closer to a 339 then a les paul. But again it is it's own thing. It has great sustain and is very warm and smooth sounding. It is not as thick or ballsy as a regular standard or the Vintage Mahogany I had. Mine has the stock pick-ups in it the 490/498. Oh and comfort wise it has a tummy cut and for me sits much better.

I really like my LP faded DC...I prefer it to my SG.

It's just so stripped and ready to go...a lump of mahogany and 2 P90s.

It really captures that old LP Junior/special vibe and tone.

It's a little rough and ready, but that just adds to the charm for me!

I bought a DC faded for my second guitar when I was 18. It was a great sounding guitar. The p90s were everything from sweet to raunchy. However the the neck could never be set up properly. I had it looked at by several techs and none could fix it. I ended up selling it and buying a MIM Fender 60s reverse headstock. I would buy another if the chance came up.

Mine is actually chambered, and the body on this is almost as thin as a SG...almost. I've had a standard plus DC (flame top) from 2002 which was also nice, and a studio DC a while back.

It doesn't sound exactly the same as a single cut, but it still has the sound that you'd expect from a les paul.

wow beautiful!

Thanks! I wasn't a fan of the lack of binding and a friend of mine suggested that. I love how PRS does the natural wood "binding." I know it's not a Gibson thing but it makes my guitar an original piece that's mine.

Here's a different angle.

I had one for a few years. It was a great guitar, until I compared it to a regular LP. It lacked the balls and almost sounded nasally in comparison. Also had trouble getting the intonation right.

Was my first nice guitar though.

I used to have one just like that. Bought it used and sold it for a decent profit.

Not really a Gibson guy, but it was definitely a hot looking guitar and probably my favorite Gibson that I've ever owned.

Plus the yellow ones seem to be going for a decent penny nowdays.
