I scored on a 1989 Gibson Melody Maker. This guitar has an Explorer headstock, Kahler Flyer Trem, Grover tuners and ebony fretboard with I think are medium jumbo frets.

The guitar came with Gibson HB-L and HB-Rs. Needless to say they didn't stay in for more that a tune or 2.

It now has a BG Dark X in the bridge and a Pure90 neck.

The guitar plays like pure butter. The frets are still perfect after all these years. It's a player. It's got some dings and chips but overall it's very solid and sounds great acoustically and [plugged in..

Here's some photos. I'm off to jam for a while.:thu:

First thing I would do is replace the Khaler Flyer with a Real USA Khaler.

Those Flyers are real Tone Killers..........

A Guy I used to play with put one on his Hamer Blitz.

I took it to the shop for him and picked it up after.

Was plinkin' the strings as it was sittin open in the case on the counter before and after.

After was...................................................

Like a cloth was draped over the strings...........

HN80sGD! (o)(o) Kahler flyer is not a weak link here. You can get different saddle rollers (steel) if you want to brighten the tone.

That looks like a killer guitar. The temptation for me would to refinish the thing in some wild-ass 80s geometric pattern. Like a Cosby sweater!
