Whats the cheapest way to get decent pickups these days? I've been out of the gear loop for a while and when i was i gassed too much on guitars to afford pickups. When i have money i intend on replacing some pickups in two hsh ibanez rgs (550DY/570EX), a hh ibanez rg (520QS) and a schecter c1 elite. I was just wondering if it was much cheaper getting some say, dimarzios/duncans from the usa or is it cheaper just buying some in the uk (if thats the case it looks like it'll be quite a while until i can get some new pickups ).

Also what happened to swineshead pickups? They used to be pretty cheap and i heard they where good but they seemed to have dissapeared!

In my opinion, it's the amp that conjures up your sound.

 

A clean Fender-ish amp is bright. A dirty Marshall has,....the gain factor.

 

It's the amps. Not the p'ups.

 

I'd say explore from that end of the spectrum first.

That's a good point. Pickup upgrades will only make a significant difference through a good amp.

 

I'm not really sure where the best place to buy would be.

 

I use BareKnuckle pickups, but they're expensive (especially for humbuckers)
