Members Jim_Soloway
I posted this on HC 2.0 but since that seems to have gone away for now, I thought I'd post it here as well. I've never given tab more than a casual glance over the years but I've had so many requests for tabs of my recordings that I thought I'd give it a shot. I've also wanted to document some of what I know in lesson form so I'm hoping to pull the two together. This is a link to tab of a I-VI-II-V in E with a bunch of substitutions and includes a link to an MP3 of what I've tried to tab. Any comments are certainly welcome, especially on the accuracy and legibility of the tab. http://www.jimsoloway.com/lessons/TabTrial1.html And here's a link to the mp3. http://www.jimsoloway.com/lessons/TabTrial.mp3 EDIT: Here's a video that I knocked out this morning to show the left hand fingerings. Needs to be much more detailed, I should be able to play pretty close to the same thing without hearing it. I just don't see that happening here. Nice tone and tune though, very pretty! I look at at it differently. Full score notation is there to convey exactly how something should be played and can be sight-read without hearing the piece. Tab is a shorthand to let you get the inversions and runs but you need to know the piece to get all the timing. For my point, this is fine...except my fingers won't do some of it! If you tell me which chords your having troubles with I'd be happy to give you the fingering.

Members nuke_diver
Very nice JimYou are playing arpeggiated versions of those chords right...otherwise I think that e6/9 with the F on the e string would be out of reach for me The one I think I'll have trouble with is the first one Emaj9...a 4 to 7 stretch is pushing it for me ...On the chords where you show nothing playing on the A string, is the A string muted or skipped? Thanks

On the chords where you show nothing playing on the A string, is the A string muted or skipped? Thanks A few things... First, I've added a video to the original post to show all of the left hand fingerings. There's really no mega-stretches here so I think they should all be playable (on the other hand, I've been playing all of these chords for a very long time so it's entirely possible that underestimating the difficulty level for some of them).Second, I made a correction in the chord notation on the 6th chord in the progression. For some reason I had it labelled as an "F#7". Its actually an F7#11. The whole idea is to get a chromatic descent from the F#m7 the precedes it.And in answer to your question about omitting the A string, I very rarely mute anything intentionally in a chord. Since I'm finger picking, I can usually just omit a string if I don't want it to sound.
