Members candyphlyp
On the 5-way switch on my strat, positions 2 and 4 sound very thin and are a little quieter than 1, 3, and 5. There is a single coil in the middle and humbuckers in the bridge and neck positions. Is this an inherent problem with my pickup setup or did I screw up the wiring somehow? FWIW the neck humbucker is a GFS 4-conductor and the bridge humbucker is a Duncan 2-conductor
Members WRGKMC
The center pickup is out of phase. Reverse its wiring. When strats were first made, they had three like pickups. Later they went to a North, South, North pole configuration and reverse wiring on the center pickup for hum canceling purposes. If you've added humbuckers and the single sounds thin when paralleled with an HB, its likely out of phase. Reversing the two leads on the Single coil should put it in phase with the HB.
