Members WarmMachineHead
Hello guys... I know this is not a recording forum, but I usually find fast help here. I am trying to record something in garage band and the setup goes as follows: Amp (Vox VT50)---> Mixer (behringer xenyx) ---> Mac G4 I've recorded this way for a long time, but right now, the computer doesn't receive any signal. The Mixer is found because I can choose between 'Built in audio' or 'USB audio codec', but I start playing and the guitar parts do not go through. I don't see any signal nor I can record. The midi tracks do record, so it's a problem with the mixer I guess, but the mixer works without the PC just fine. Any guesses?

Members Hubert Stumblin
Mixer routing? Do you see input to the mixer? If so you may have to route it somehow to the USB output.
Members WarmMachineHead
I don't know what is routing I am reading about it right now, but I think it is plugged the same way it was before. The only difference is that it worked before and now it doesn't.
Members mrbrown49
Check your software routing. make sure the correct input devices are selected as the recording source.
Members WarmMachineHead
Yeah, the input and output are 'USB audio codec'... it is supposedly the mixer.
Members mrbrown49
Yeah, the input and output are 'USB audio codec'... it is supposedly the mixer. Does it just take the whole mixer as one thing or can you break out the individual tracks?
Members CoqBelliqueux
Usually, restarting the computer with plugged or unplugged devices will make a difference. Maybe you just switched you power up routine or something like that.
Members WarmMachineHead
I think it can be divided in tracks... the guitar is plugged in channel 1 and I select channel 1 in garage band. Everything looks like it's working, but the problem is the signal. The gain is max, the sliders are up, all the buttons, everything looks good on the pc... I don't know if the interface is {censored}ed up, but the mac does know that there is a USB device in there, so I don't know...
Members candyphlyp
Try running the stereo line out from the mixer to the 1/8" mic jack ("built in audio"). You'll probably need a 1/4" female to 1/8" male converter, but they're like two bucks at radioshack
Members WarmMachineHead
I plug the in L or R, wherever?
Members d_dave_c
Check the 'Input' in the track info window - Channel 1 &2 (Stereo) Change that to Channel 1 (mono) and see if that does it, if not try Channel 2 (Mono). Also check the Volume underneath Input.
Members mrbrown49
Check the panning on your mixers ( both software and hardware) too. If you are running out of the Left mono output of your mixer, but the channel is panned to the right you won't hear anything.
