Members Ferdinandstrat
OK, I am not a gigging musician but I often find myself in need of an amp with a lot of versatility and mobility. I mainly play stoner metal and prog/alt rock, so does it have high gain tones(not brutal stuff)? Does it take pedals well? Does the line out feature means I can record with it? Members jelloman
OK...I'm interested as well..I been wanting one of them for awhile now...mainly for the classic fender sound but with the added versatility of a modeling amp...
Members cbh5150
Yes to all questions, Fs - the built-in effects are a bit limited, but there are enough amp models that can get you where you want to go, and sound pretty darn good.Jello, I thought I told you to get one already! Members paulskirocks
I love mine... It is no frills, sounds great... And, you can lift it without dislocating a shoulder...

Members Ferdinandstrat
How is it compared to the Rebel 20?
Members Yogi_Sizzle
How is it compared to the Rebel 20? They are really different amps. The rebel twenty is an all tube, 20 watt amp, while the Vibro champ XD is a 5 watt tube combo, with built in DSP effects. I have the vibro champ and it is plenty loud for home use and can be used for jams. With a drummer though you are limited, but it can be heard cranked so you can't really play it clean with a drummer. Very nice tube break up and a good variety of sounds. I have had mine for over a year now and I have no complaints. Much better amp for me than the Epi Valve junior I had. here is a clip of me playing mine with a Squier CV 50s: and here it is with pedals:
Members D-log
I've found myself really GAS'ing for a super-champ or a vbiro-champ as well, and I finally got to trying out the vibro-champ last week: The clean and blues tones were very good, although I can't recommend the high-gain tones they tried to emulate. The digital FX are OK, but nothing to write home about. Overall, very nice amp though. I really want to get one, but money's very tight right now. If you can afford it, it definitely won't disappoint.
Members profgalen
After I changed the speaker to an Eminence Ragin Cajun and some JJ's tubes I sold my Blues Jr. I really like my SCXD. FX are very useful. I really dig the Vibro-lux.
Members tkachuk07
I have a Super champ XD. The areas I think it is very good at is cleans, blues stuff, Rolling Stones kind of rock n roll & on some of the higher gain voices you can dial in some good Pink Floyd type leads. I don't think it's that great for higher gain rhythms. It's just a 1x10 combo & it will be boxy & not very tight. If you run it through a 2x12 cab I'm sure it would do a much better job. Members Oldskool Texas
I had one for about a week, and found that four of the voices were really nice, but the other 12 weren't anything special. I wasn't impressed with the way pedals worked with it, but I'm under the impression that this isn't really what it's designed for. I returned it and bought a tube amp. FWIW, if you can find a Tech 21 Trademark 10, it's a great small SS amp with a spring reverb and better tones than the SCXD, IMO.
Members 59humbucker
i really like mine. 15 watts tube seems ample to play small gigs with. The amp's at its best in clean and just breakin up alter tones. Higher gain wise, there are a couple of usable tones but it's not the amps strength. Should be ok with a pedal to boost tho
Members Orange Jackson
I don't see anyone playing a gig with one of these stock, unless you mic it. Spending the money to mod it gets you into to the price range of other amps that I would much rather have. In a rehearsal type environment you are going to get blown out of the water if you show up with a scxd. But the op did not ask about gigging. As far as home use they are pretty good. Better then a lot of amps that are out there. There is a digital quality to the sound that eventually got annoying to me. The thing that I really did not like about mine was the noise floor. Lots of hisss at bedroom volumes, and that is totally annoying. The Hissss is much more prominent on the reverb setting btw, not so much with the delay, but still there for sure. If you crank the gain and you cut the master volume, you can get very good brootals out of it though, channel 2, sim2. I sold mine, and a VCXD, and got a Bugera v5 which I use with a few pedals, I could not be happier with this set up. Much better over all tone. I take mine to practices & it gets over the drums. I haven't used it at a gig since we play some heavier songs & not just blues classic rock stuff.
