Members Cobalt Blue
How many of you have placed a bid for a guitar on eBay, never really thinking that you would actually win the guitar at that price? (And maybe felt anxious/foolish about having done so?) Have any of you had that happen more than once? Whether once or more than once, what was/were the outcome(s)? Ultimately, were you happy with the purchase?
Members cratz2
I don't think I've ever won a guitar that I didn't expect to, but I've definitely won a couple necks, speakers and COUNTLESS bike parts that I put a minimum bid in on and ended up winning.Key word here is 'countless'. Members jhorne
I placed a few $600 bids on USA G&Ls in the past and even though reserve wasn't met, I was the high bidder when it ended and they offered me the guitars at my ending bid. I ended up with a Comanche for $540, and ASAT Z-3 for $525, and an ASAT Special for $540.
Members maltomario
thats how i scored my peavey wolfgang standard. put in a first bid of $468 and promptly forgot about it until i got an email saying i was the winner. of course this was back when ebay was new and it was easier to score stuff at good prices. Members foppy
I got 50s Classic strat in surf green that way once. Put in $300 and never thought I'd get it. The seller seemed pretty pissed off about it too.

Members super56k
I was very surprised to be the only bidder on a USA First Act Lola, in a custom flight case no less, for $300 + $35 shipping. The guitar is fantastic, and I almost feel bad about getting it that cheap because the case is extremely nice too. It was a touring guitar so it's very roadworn, but that's just cosmetics. And like with foppy I thought the seller wasn't going to go through with it. No communication for a while after asking if/when it'll be shipped out, but I eventually got a snippy reply with a tracking number. It's become my favorite guitar (2nd is an import SFA Lola with Gretsch filtertrons). I never saw it coming, but I've become a First Act fanboy. Members Tupelo Son
At 4am on a sleepless night a couple of years ago I scored a Cali Schecter PT Tele(early 80's before the sale & move to Texas), original case and all....for $170 shipped. Was a one day auction. The seller was a nice older lady in California selling off some of her late husband's toys.....I've won a few unexpectedly with lowball bids but this one tops them all. Members drawdeep
Yeah, recently... Les Paul Standard Silverburst- crappy auction with bad webcam (reversed) pics, 0 feedback and bat-crap crazy wording in the listing, but the guy was local, so I figured I would roll the dice at the starting bid for $1000... especially since I had contacted the guy before the auction and had his name and cell phone number...I won, but the guy fell through on the auction and quit responding to me- someone must have told him it was worth more (or his parents forbid him from selling it- I got the vibe he was very young).I will always consider that the one that got away
Members Special J
The guitar in my avatar. It's a Hamer Special that I won after placing a drunken bid on it. The seller had 0 feedback and a single fuzzy pic of the guitar. Not a bid I would have normally placed in sober circumstances. I won it for $425. Normally they go for $600-700 used and this one was a custom order from the factory with a color and p/u config that wasn't normally offered on this guitar. Immediately the seller wasn't very communicative and I ended up corresponding with his buddy. Red flags were up all over the place. But, eventually it came, as described. I totally lucked out IMO. Members chimi
My best was by far a Gibby Studio Lite with a gorgeous blue finish, ebony fretboard, etc. There were a few cell phone type pictures up and the seller had only very few feedbacks but i took the chance and won it for $450 shipped. Talk about a great deal

Members lovellintn
Put a $300 bid on a 5760 Strat with HSC listed from a pawn shop with 5 days left on the auction. Forgot about it. Got an email saying you won. Showed up on my door step in mint condition with hang tags. Played it 6 months and sold it on ebay for $600. Go figure. Also scored a PRS SE One(mint) under $200 shipped and sold it for $350...on ebay...
Members vanzant38
I WON a Jackson Soloist once on EVIL bay. The guy had horrible pics of it, very little description. I bid $265 and didn't think I would come close to winning but the high bid ended up being $225. I still have it. Nice guitar, It's far from perfect but it was a sweet deal. Another deal: In 2008 I won a 2006 Fender Standard MIM Strat with Texas Specials. All for $200. I sold the pickups for $100.
