1954 Fender partscaster..$1,500??

Was just checking out local Craigs list and saw this post.

 

 

The neck and tremolo are from a 1954, the serial # plate is from a 1956, and the body is from a 1998. It plays great. I already have another strat and, when I found out what this one was, I just never put strings back on it. I hate to have it just sitting in the closet.

Not looking to buy it or even interested..But what would a partscaster using parts from a 54 and 56 be worth? Assuming it is what he says..

dunno really, but looking at the neck on ebay, its prob a good deal just for neck . . .

That's if the neck is genuine, that pic doesn't do much justice to whatever is printed/scribbled on the heel of that neck

Clapton's "Blackie" was a partsocaster...When I saw Tom Principato here in March and chatted with him between sets, his strat is also a partsocaster with a neck from the '50's and a body from the 80's or 90's...

1- I doubt that neck is real. Look at the distance from the top of the truss rod to the fretboard. It's in the wrong place.

 

2- The wood behind the last fret looks to be too short - could just be the pics.

 

Maybe it's bad pics, but I would pass without seeing that in person.

I found pics of a 1954 and the truss rod is not that close to the top of the neck like one in Craigs..

You'll also notice that the sides of an original are tapered. The one on CL is straight.

 

If something looks to be a too good a deal - especially online - usually it is fishy. The guy knows enough to say that it's a 54 neck but not enough to do a search?

yeah but the story I read is that EC bought 5-6 Strats one day and then went back to England and swapped necks until he found the best combo then gifted the rest away.

 

Page's Dragon Tele was a partscaster too with a 58 Body and 59 neck or something like that and SRVs number 1 same deal

Cute gimmick selling it on Craigslist and selling it as just the neck is vintage. It sounds more legit...
