Members Citizen Cain
No, but I bet that would sound pretty darn good.I have that combo in a Telecaster Custom Special which is similarly mahogany with a set neck and that combo sounds pretty sweet in that guitar. Plus those pickups have very useful split tones. I think I played one of those Teles once at a store. I remember the neck pickup actually being pretty cool sounding, but I don't recall the bridge sound. I was thinking the TZ would help give the sound some mass in an SG. That's what the air zone did in my SG. All the complexity of a good vintage PAF with the tight bottom end and power for harder stuff. I am really surprised I hadn't heard more about this pickup. It totally works in the SG. I have one coming for one of my LPs next, we'll see how I like it compared to the JB that's in it now. Right now the SG sounds bigger than the LP. Members machine gunner
I just got a GC exclusive white SG Standard w/ bustbuckers and coil taps, sounds way better than the Standard I had w/ the 498/490 combo. I'm sure the Classic 57's sound great too.
Members GAS Man
I was thinking the TZ would help give the sound some mass in an SG. Indeed. I like the TZ since it has a wide tonal range, fat, but yet still quite articulate on top; and although it's a hot p'up, it still sounds sweet clean. The only negatives I hear about the TZ is some say it doesn't do a good job at "cutting thru the mix". Well, I'd agree it's not a mid range spikey p'up like a JB or CC for example. But on a guitar body that's not totally phat to begin with, the TZ can do some real cool stuff. If I played in a band, I might be more worried about the cut, but as a solo player, I like the wide EQ of that p'up.
Members Darkstorm
I use bc rich bdsm bridge and emg h1 for neck. Better crunch and growl etc then any other pups Ive tried or owned. I dont like smooth sounding pups so most dimarzio and seymour pups cant satisfy.
Members JTEES4
AGREED!!!! The 490R/498T combo it comes with. I think it's one guitar that comes good-to-go, from the manufacturer.
Members AXEL276
AGREED!!!! Totally disagree!!!! I hate the stock pups. They lasted one day and I swapped them out for Duncan' JB/Jazz. A night and day difference. Luv the guitar now:thu: I had the same stock pups in my Explorer. They went as well for a JB/59 combo.
