Members Crunchtime
I'm just curious what pickups are popular with SG players. What are you running in your SG and what do you like about those pickups?
Members bsman
I'm not an SG player, but I think the general consensus around here is that 57 classics have the nod for SGs...
Members BillyCorgan
I've always wanted a SG Standard with Iommi pups. I have a '67 Special with stock P-90s which are sweet though.
Members maxnew40
I tried a Duncan JB in the bridge and I think it sounds worse than the stock pickup. I woder if a Pearly Gates would sound as good in my SG as it does in my Les Paul? Max
Members Alecto
Off-hand, I'd say the Rio Grande Texas/BBQ set. Can do great cleans and overdriven tones, plus they're darker which works better with the SG. BG Pickups also get a lot of love around here and with very good reason. Members HRM
The 490R/498T combo it comes with. I think it's one guitar that comes good-to-go, from the manufacturer.
Members bigconig
I liked the 57s in mine and love the Air Zone bridge, 59 neck I have now (mine has a maple cap)

Members xStonr
I had a set of Gibson 57/57+ in my SG and on a whim I put in a set of humbucker sized P90's by Vintage Vibe and WOW it sounds even better now.
Members PunkKitty
I use the stock 490 set in my SG Faded. I like them quite a bit. IF I replace them, it will be with a set of BG Pure 90's. But I don't see that happening.
Members GAS Man
I own several SGs and my fave has a Burstbucker 1 & Burstbucker 2 combo in it. It's not as bright as the '57s and is more complex sounding than the 490s or 498s. I'm a bit of an dd man out though, because my second choice is the 490R/490T. I actually prefer that more classic rock tone over the harder sounding 498T I also have the SG Classic with the P-90s which is pretty cool. Another has the EMG 85/81 combo which I actually like better on an SG than an LP. About the only common Gibson p'up I haven't tried out personally on an SG is the Burstbucker Pros. But I think I'd prefer the 1&2 since they are a bit more mellow. I have guitars with BB Pros, just not an SG.
Members GAS Man
Anyone tried a Air Norton/Tone Zone combo in a SG? No, but I bet that would sound pretty darn good. I have that combo in a Telecaster Custom Special which is similarly mahogany with a set neck and that combo sounds pretty sweet in that guitar. Plus those pickups have very useful split tones.
