Members Entropy21
I have the opportunity to purchase a vintage Jazzmaster from a friend who claims it was a "Servicemans" guitar sold to the troops back in the day. At first this sounded like an awesome thing- a guitar made for the troops in Vietnam. After doing some looking into, I found this article talking about how all of these guitars are fake copies.http://www.jimshine.com/phillipino/vietnam_serviceman_copies.htm Any word on this? It has a serial number and everything, but Im confused here. Lemme know ASAP !
Members lowbrow
Look at the photos on that site and tell me you're honestly considering buying this Vietnamese copy as an instrument. As a wall hanging conversation piece, sure...but not as a playable guitar.
Members Entropy21
Im really just in denial because I have been on the hunt for a Jazzmaster for a while and thought I found a gem no one would be willing to buy because its only pick up. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320541677241&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Im just sad EDIT: Hello fellow Indyian
Members Ralph onion
As a Viet Nam veteran those hucksters had everything to sell to the GI. Only the REM's had time to buy that {censored}. Fake Zippo lighters and you name it.
Members fuzztone
On thing to remember is that they don't have a trussrod in the neck. None of them. They actually were all made by one guy in the Philippines. Having said that,I still would love to have one of these.
Members Tweedledee
Pure poo. Seriously. There's really no reason to spend any of your money on one of them unless you have a ton of disposable cash and want a conversation piece. They don't really work as playable instruments. I've seen a lot of photos of different models, but I've only seen one in person - a Jaguar copy - and it was a complete joke.
Members Carbohydrates
A while ago, a member of OffsetGuitars took a trip to Vietnam and found a few of these in a shop. Even for dirt-cheap prices right from the source, he passed. I advise you do the same.

Members ashtray
Wow - someone paid $1k for that? Yikes. That said - they're actually are collectable, but not as players. The collector's value is probably more like $3-400. As a player, it's about $60. For $1k you can find a used US RI Jazzmaster!
Members Mr_GoodBomb
You can find a RI Jazzmaster for around $700 if you keep an eye out.
