Henry garza plays a MIM Fender Strat.

And plays it VERY well, indeed. That said, I'm not sure that having him (Garza) play a Mexican-built instrument really makes the overall point. There might well be other reasons he chooses to do so :poke: (or not - who knows?)...

Either way, he sounds very good, and I'd wager he would sound very good on just about anything he picked up.:thu:

With a name like Garza and being a Texican band I can see why a Mexican instrument maybe de rigeur

True, and he's one of my favorite players, but it's not really a stock MIM. According to the Rob Kemp article in the 2006 Holiday issue of Guitar One magazine,

"My buddy (and guitar tech) Ish Flores customizes and hotrods 'em up, " he says. Said hotrodding involves Texas Special pickups and '62 reissue Strat necks.

And that's the point. Almost none of my guitars are stock, cheap or not. To many of us, especially those that play music for a living, it is simply more cost effective to buy a cheaper guitar (or two), mod them, and play away without the worry associated with more expensive guitars.

If done correctly they sound just as good, play just as well, even while lacking the minute refinements of more expensive guitars.

This thread was a letdown as I expected a wild war.lol It has been proven just as a guy named Ed took $189 in second parts and made a brown sound that guys have spent up to 10K trying to copy or even more idiotic 25K on a reissue of it-DUH.

Play with what you can afford, but the bottom line is that you develop the skill to be a competent player. Personally I buy an upper end guitar because of the comfort of playability and tone. But upper end to me is in the 2K range. I would never spend 10 or 15K on a vintage ax when I can get a guitar made today that will more than likely sound better ,play better and definitely look better.

I have read enough interviews with the greatest players in the world who say just like everything else a lot of vintage axes are dogs and you have to find a keeper. Most top players leave there prize axes home these days and go out with Custom Shop guitars made for them. I have no problem even with straight up collectors who can only strum a few cowboy chords as they cann see the beuty in a guitar that someone who loves art sees in a painting by a great artist. But there are some stuck up douche bags that cant play a lick and buy high end gear and like to rag on guys who cant afford it yet can play circles around them=YOU CANT BUY TALENT!
