Well, you gotta admit that Gibson did their homework on this one. Being that the righty version shown has the lead pickup slanting the wrong way for a righty sting-up config means you'll get Henrixian tonal nuances out of that bridge pickup. ;)

'cept the tremolo is correct for a righty, when it shoulda been a lefty tremolo. Oh well, what the {censored}.

I think they made the right decision with this config, though. It would be a pain in the neck to operate the vibrato arm in the wrong position, but the reversed pickups and headstock doesn't affect your ability to play the guitar well, just the tone.

That's not the Gibson Hendrix guitar, that's one of the cheapos that would be released under the Experience Hendrix brand name. Maybe Gibson would oversee the production, I don't remember, but I distinctly recall that the Gibson Hendrix guitar was never shown in its finished state. The closest we ever got to seeing one was pictures of unfinished models in the factory, and those were removed shortly after.

The whammy system would supposedly be something out of the ordinary. Someone mentioned its resemblance to Steinberger tremolos, and it could be something similar.

All in all, it did look intriguing, and I think that judging by the little I've seen, it could've been a pretty damn good instrument. As long as the whole Hendrix thing is erased, it's one of the worst marketing decisions ever.

I know people don't assoicate Jimi and Gibson, but I thought what I had read was that Jimi was designing an actual Hexdrix guitar with Gibson before he died. This is a "resurection" of the project with Jimi's original input on the design..

:idk:

He played a V from time to time too.

sounds like a folk legend the owner of Jimi's estate is trying to spread

Could well be ...

But I've done more Hendrix research than most, and this is the first I've ever heard of it.

Most rare of all his Gibson sightings was Jimi + TV Yellow Les Paul Junior Special with a pair of P-90 pickups. There's another shot I've seen in a book with Jimi and this particular LP Junior guitar playing in a rehearsal session with Gil Evans' jazz orchestra for an album that was never released. It seemed that Jimi became interstied in getting an LP Junior after witnessing Leslie West recording some tracks at Jimi's Electricladyland Studio.
