Members Invader.CC
This. Though I think the manager's reaction was way over the top, he was well within his rights, and reason, to not want people playing with a metal pick on instruments he is trying to sell. A better response would have been for him to ask you to please use a plastic pick since, I'm assuming, you were not just {censored}ing around with a metal pick, it's your standard hardware for playing. No i started playing with a shaped quarter after seeing an add on Ebay for them about 5 or 6 years ago..Up till then i played with a standard 2.0 Gator grip ..At first it was a gimmick i wont deny that just another flashy thing a musician will do to draw attention..In studio though i really started noticing that i was much more accurate using a shaved quarter...I also was using much more pick control as far as playing softer at times i guess you would call it pick finesse for a fancy word ..It has now become part of my tone and style..Also do not get me wrong a owner of a store has every right in the world not to allow someone to do something to his property ..Mars used to not let you play any instruments in there store no matter who you were thats there choice..It was his manner that i found amusing... Members Invader.CC
Did it have the mids? Now that is funny..Yeah it had the low end of a Marshall the Highs of a Fender and no mids at all... In all seriousness what i was referring to is the PRS had a very crisp Fender type clean channel and the excellent Marshall JCM 800 overdriven tone also .. Members PunkKitty
What an ass. If he keeps acting that way he will push customers away and will be just another small shop that went out of business. So you play with a quarter. Well, this lesbian prefers a penny that was run over by a train. My mom found it and gave it to me. As for if the guy was gay or not, does it really matter? The bottom line is that he was an ass and there is no reason to go back. As for learning to play via the classical method, I was classical guitar major in college. Yay for me. It taught me to sight read and be a guitar playing robot. I had to throw most of that away to really learn how to play guitar. And I don't miss it. Members john_p_t
This is good..I was in an area of town dropping off some demos to a couple of places that have requested demo's and booking info for our band...Anyway on the way to the place i passed up a guitar store and like always when i see a store i never been in before made a mental note to stop in on the way back... Upon walking up to the store i noticed a couple things..One was that it had very nice woodwork on the outside of the windows and a very nice window display..What this told me is this may be a little more upscale then what i am used to.. So in i go and i was right..It catered more towards high end acoustics Martin ,Taylor,Guild,Breedlove..The manager was speaking to a older lady and what i assumed was her son ..I kinda of overheard the conversation the kid was wearing a slipknot shirt and the store person was telling the mother how if the kid wanted to learn to play guitar he must learn the basics first and start by learning classical guitar and sight reading..I'm a guitar instructor also and although there is some merit to this i do not believe it is the only way to learn to play the guitar. But this was non of my business..So i nodded and walked on.. Well a few minutes later the previous mentioned person asked if he could help me...I asked if i could check out this PRS amp that i had never seen before and also wanted to take a look at a Yamaha hollow body with a little to high of a price but not unreasonable..He went and got me a cable and set the amp at volume levels that he felt was appropriate..I noticed at this time that this guy had certain female qualities to his talk and manner plus had that kind of whiny way about him..Which makes no difference to me ..Its not my thing but to each there own.. Well i settle in and start playing..He comes back a few minutes later ask what i think i start to respond when all of a sudden his eyes go wide open and he in a loud manner says what do you think you are doing..I'm like totally struck by his change in character and start looking around for some one else doing something when he yanks the guitar out of my hands and shuts down the amp.. He starts going on about how i could come into his store and risk damage to one of his guitars and who do i think i am...Realize i still have no idea what he is talking about..I try to respond and he puts one hand on his hip and the other in my face like to silence me from answering...I still have no idea what he is talking about and he says just leave so i start myself out of the store but i finally got to ask what did i do to offend him.. He starts bitching at me because i play with a shaved down quarter for a pick like many blues players.. He was going on about how it can damage or break strings..I left without saying another word in total disbelief... You homophobic arsehole. If you're this much of a prick in real life, I don't find it at all hard to imagine you being thrown out of anywhere.

Members happwith12strin
Music stores are not good places to try to hang out in. They want you to buy something. But thats just my opinion. Here is a story, has nothing to do with the original post or other replies: I was in Guitar Center one time and a responsible looking guy with a shirt that looked like a employees shirt is trying out an expensive $1200 powered mixer. So he is holding a $1500 guitar and asks me to hold it for him while he hooks up the pa to play...I tell the guy the guitar is too expensive for me to mess with..he insists... I asked the guy , "do you work here?" , he says yes. I hold it while he hooks up cables, then give him the guitar so he can play..Then he proceeds to take the main speaker out line from the powered mixer and plug it into a $1300 power amp input, well thats obviously wrong and of course it was set high...I tried to tell the guy..but he would not listen...so it blasts the entire store with bad sounding hum and a little bit of guitar.....the manager comes running in, the guy as it turns out was not an employee. Manager asks me where he got the guitar, I told him he said he was an employee. I doubt that it did the powered mixer or crown amp or the $1100 JBL speakers any good...luckily the guitar was not damaged, and no one got mad at me...Manager is red faced and tells customer to let employees hook up gear and get guitars.. ..alleged customer who was simply not concerned about the blunder..slides away... But he could play guitar very well.....
