Members Bun-Bun
Just picked it up on the weekend. It was a bit on sale and limited special with a Celestion Vintage 30 instead of the Eminence one. But now I see what people mean by the volume control... what is the fix? Members DaleH
I read that you can order the same pot they use for the tone pot and use it for a volume pot.
Members wagdog
The volume fix is to pick up an audio taper pot for the master volume. There used to be an "unofficial hot rod deluxe site", but it's apparently gone. Hopefully there is archive of it somewhere 'cause that site had TONS of great info and mods. Members DaleH
Can you pull a tube on those to cut the power rating?

Could you elaborate. The volume is super sensitive. And most of the volume range is unusable. Like for practicing at home its somewhere between 1 and 2 but even the slightest touch of the knob will make it unbearingly loud or too quiet. Members Bun-Bun
Can you pull a tube on those to cut the power rating? I would assume so... but I dont know which one and I wouldn't take my word for it. The guys at eurotubes would know for sure.
Members Citizen Cain
No, you can't pull a tube to lower the power. There's only two power tubes in it and they both have to be in there for the amp to to function. You can do this on amps with 4 power tubes, but not two. Nice amp though! Members JWBlues
Enjoy your new amp! I sold mine. They are nice but way too loud.
Members acousticDave
swap ur volume pot for a 250k-A (audio taper). problem solved.
Members Funkwire
And make sure it's a mini-pot. Full size pots will not fit.
Members Sheraton
Has anyone ever tried the JJ 6V6 tubes Eurotubes sells for the Hotrod Deluxe? Yep. Worked great and easy to do. Just watch the bias video on the Eurotubes website and re-bias for the 6V6's. Thing is, it's a subtle change both in tone and volume. Output wattage is dependent on a lot more than the tubes. If I had to guess I'd say this takes a HRD from the very loud 40 watts down to a very loud 25-ish watts. If you think about a Peavey Classic 30 being 30 watts and a HRD being rated at 40 watts, can you really tell the difference between 40 and 25? Maybe a little. Tone-wise I think a 6V6 is a better sounding tube than a 6L6. A little mid-ier with less of a scooped sound. Closer to a DRRI sound on the clean channel. A little less bass-y. Members Bun-Bun
Why wont multi-quote work!? Is there any downside to useing a audio taper pot for the Volume? It is the only complaint I have about this amp (despite the distortion channel but im hopeing some better tubes will help that). Think it will it void the warranty if I get it done where I bought it? If you are thinking of having someone else do the work, pull the chassis out and send it here: http://www.omegaamps.com/ For $250 plus shipping, He will change the audio pot and a few other things plus perform his other famous HRD mods that bring the gain channels into Dumble territory. Members scolfax
If you pay for shipping I'll send you this. You put it in your effects loop and it gives you a more usable volume control. I used it on my HRD but I don't need it anymore since I got my Boogie. PM if you want it.

His kits range from simple mods to more extensive, but are a great value. He will tame the gain channel and rebias for tubes of your choice as well. I did mine myself a while ago, but if you don't have access to a shop, i highly reccommend getting one of his kits / some sort of mod kit. For basically 80 bucks more, you can make that amp into a pure gem.

The Omegamps mod includes rewiring the gain channel while the Fromelelectronics mod does not include doing anything to the gain channel.
Members Bun-Bun
Hmm a bunch more options to think about... Thanks guys for making want to spend more money >. Have to research more into both of those mods and the differences... An interesting thing I just realized though is that there is a Blues series and Hotrod series... The amp I was looking at was the Blues but what they had on sale (and only in stock) and what I bought is the Hotrod... might explain why the gain channle sounds different... What are the differences between the Blues & Hotrod? Man Fender likes to confuse there line up...
Members jhamnett
Nice amp! More than anything, if you want a lot of cleans on the normal channel, throw some 5751s in V1/V2 and a balanced 12AT7 in V3 and listen to the loud cleans! A V30 is great in this amp, I have V30 clones from WGS in my Deville.
Members dooshbag
I never understood the wisdom of spending essentially 1/2 or more of the value of the amp to modify it. Instead why not just buy a decent amp to begin with.

Instead why not just buy a decent amp to begin with. Availibility, size, specific tone... I want the Fender cleans. I have saught after it for awhile and I finally gave up and just bought a Fender. I chose this over a DRRI for versatility. But I wonder if maybe I should have just bougth a DRRI... I wanted the cleans fromt his amp. But I can definitly see people wanting to mod it and make the distortion something great as well instead of having to have this amp with another just to have these cleans...
