What do you folks think?

It's a gorgeous looking guitar and I'm sure it sounds ace. I've never played one before. Have any of you?

A concern is that the guitar they want to trade it for is my Suhr whose trade value is a firm $2000. The Hamer seems like a lovely guitar but the only completed listing on eBay for a Super Pro was for $1500 and it didn't sell.

The guitar is over $3300 new on musicians friend but I'm afraid it might be one of those guitars that loses a massive chunk of it's value on the used market. Sorta like Parker guitars. If I traded for it and decided I didn't like it what do you suppose I could sell it for?

If the Suhr trade value is $2K what do you suppose I should ask for in cash?

I've played a SuperPro before. Gorgeous guitar, as are most of the Hamers I've owned/played. IIRC, the SuperPro is a bit smaller than the standard Monaco, and is chambered rather than semi-hollow. I think it's still a bit bigger than an LP in body. Necks tend to be on the chunky side, rather like a 50's LP. I'm a bit of a Hamer fan-boy, but I doubt you'll be disappointed by that guitar. If you want to do a little more research, I highly suggest moseying over to the Hamer Fan Club forums. Good guys over there, and a wealth of info on all things Hamer.

Hamers do lose quite a bit of their value when reselling them after buying them new, and are sometimes tough to move on ebay or craigslist (and probably here). If you buy them used though, they hold their value quite well. If you try to sell it, you'll do better over at the HFC or maybe TGP, where people have caught on to what great guitars these are.

Resale values on the Superpro are not great but the guitars are. Incredibly resonant and very comfortable to play. If you're looking to keep it, then it's a really fine guitar but if resale is a major concern, then Hamer may not be your best bet.
