F'ugly, Inspired or Meh

Been thinking about trying to do a pair of GT40'ish finishes. The Orange/Blue on an Epi LP and the Black/Silver on a Gibson LP. So F'ugly, Inspired or Meh? I realize the mock ups are really, really, really rough.

I used to love the Orange & Powder Blue race car team, back when I was a kid.

 

But, of these two - I really prefer the look of the black & dark-gray one, better (and I normally don't dig black guitars).

I also prefer the black one which is why I would do the Gibson in that scheme and the Epi in the more zealous(?) scheme.

I'd like the first one as long as it's well done, the headstock matches, and the colors are a bit metallic.

Actually I think these would be cool....lose the "Gulf" logo thing.

Ah yes, the Gulf colors. My man cave is based on those colors, though my inspiration was the 917, not the GT-40. Even have an orange AF75 on the wall. A guitar in those colors could be cool if you can pull it off.

Figured I better build a 3D model to get a better idea of how it might look finished. Still need to make a 3D model of the Bridge pieces and the 2D art needs A LOT of work. I'm still liking it though even with the rough art.

I'm not into the race car motif at all, personally, but I still kind of like that: the numbers, colors, logos, everything.

I borrowed this image from the Girl Brand Guitars site. A toggle plate like this would be cool on your guitar:

Your childhood fantasies about racecars and such don't matter here.

 

Get rid of the stupid logos and stay with the basic striping design and colours that you have. No logos, no race car number, no circles. Just blue and orange with the large stripe.

So many haters in this thread. If you want to keep the internet happy, you should probably just do a honeyburst instead.

 

If it was me, I'd definitely go blue/orange for a GT40 homage. Not that the black doesn't look cool in its own right, but I wouldn't have recognized it like I did the blue/orange. And I'd probably lose or move the logo (though I'd keep the number).

I didn't remember the 917 colors to be so close to the GT40. Cool movie, not for everyone, though.
