Members IBDBB
Picked one up today at my local GC along with an MXR classic overdrive for $30. Total for both ~$
Members GilmourD
How's it sound compared to a Metal Zone?
Members Alecto
Nice score. How does it sound? I own the Free Fuzz, and I've good things about both the Green Screamer and the Two-Timer delay.
Members IBDBB
I was looking for something that could hit those 90's rock distortion tones, and I think it does it pretty well. Not too mid scooped, not too shrill, pretty smooth distortion. For $20, it is a no brainer. Sorry, this probably belongs in the great deals thread....
Members GilmourD
Well, I picked up both pedals, too. ROCK!
Members ashtray
I tried out both pedals last time they were on sale. I ended up buying the MXR, and leaving the BBE behind. The salesdood didn't understand why I wouldn't want the BBE. The MXR just had a more "rock & roll" sound to it - pretty much like it says "classic distortion". The BBE was more scooped metal sound - not really my thing at all. And even at that, I wasn't that impressed with it. Sure, there's plenty worse pedals out there for $20 - so it's a steal for that - but if you compare it to pedals in the $70-100 range, it's average at best. (The MXR pedal holds its own in that price range - in fact, I think it's the same electronics inside as the Distortion III pedal they sell, which goes for around $70. I think the Classic Distortion is just packaged specifically for Guitar Center?)

It's the same pedal as the GT-OD which also happens to be the same pedal as the ZW44 Zakk Wylde Overdrive. The only difference between the two pedals is the position of the switch on the circuit board (which is accessed by pulling the board out of the case). The switch changes up the EQ of the pedal. The reason I got both pedals is because I do use that scooped metal sound sometimes.

This means I'll have to swing by GC tomorrow and see if they have any left. I like my Classic Distortion pedal, but sometimes I want more of an overdrive sound instead.... If the switch on my TS9 hadn't gone funky, I'd be ok, but - looks like I might grab one of these. At some point I need to build a pedal board. I found the Gator GPT at Sweetwater for $59.99 free shipping and I'm going to get the One Spot Combo Pack with it. It's crazy how expensive a simple pedalboard can be.
