Members Edge11
I just (literally like 2 hours ago) bought a guitar in a similar (messed up) condition for 200$, what a deal.

Members flummox
Neck appears to have been shaved - badly. Either there was a locking nut on it at one point, or the two holes are some sort of attempt at repairing a broken headstock. That might not in itself be so bad if it weren't obvious the work was done by a chimp. I'd be willing to bet there's a filled-in Kahler rout under the bridge. Betting the jack hole in the side has been filled in also. This may be distortion from the crappy photos, but that top looks a whole lot flatter than a normal LP to me. There's over a day left to go, which means the price you see has no meaning whatsoever. I very much doubt it'll stay at $299. Probably end closer to $450-500. The shaved neck is worrisome - there's no good way to reverse that and no way to tell how much material was removed. Somebody with a lot of skill might be able to build it back up somewhat with veneer. If Cletus didn't chew it up too badly, it might make a good candidate for one of those single-p90 goldtops we sometimes see.
Members docjeffrey
Bidders seem to flock to these things. Personally I don't understand it. Here's a stripped ES345 beat to {censored} and it's almost up to a grand. This seller seems to strip guitars and sell all the parts separately. http://cgi.ebay.com/GIBSON-ES-345-1969-SUNBURST-EASY-PROJECT-ES-335-BODY-/160450770822?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Guitar&hash=item255b9c7786#ht_1028wt_913 By the way, the same seller from the OP has this three pickup version of the same thing: http://cgi.ebay.com/1982-gibson-les-paul-studio-/250660692791?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Guitar&hash=item3a5c8aa337#ht_600wt_1139
