Members scuzzo
Alan Freed termed the phrase "Rock and Roll"so i guess it would be what ever song he played right after he said "rock and roll" on the radio.. it may have been bill H and the comets.. was there rock and roll before it was called "Rock and Roll"?i bet so but it was prob in a Jump Blues kinda tune..at a juke joint.. Members Frozen Roadkill
You can hear elements in earlier songs but I'd say that's the point where it all comes together.
Members valentsgrif
Bill Haley. Boogie woogie, R & B, be-bop, jazz, rockabilly were all out there in the ether, about to become a part of R & R. But the amalgum which first was actually rock and roll was Bill Haley and the Comets. Members jerry_picker
... He didn't make up anything. Instead he "borrowed" the term, which was current in R&B since at least the 1930's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_and_roll#Origins_of_the_phrase Blues, and its little baby, Rock and Roll, are larcenous music. Members Larry the Dog
Growing up, my dad used to tell me it was Bill Haley/Little Richard/Buddy Holly/Chuck Berry/Jerry Lee Lewis/Duane Eddy. Love all those guys.....except Little Richard......probably wouldn't be so had he gotten killed in a plane crash/car wreck(examples back in the day: Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Ritchie Valens, Patsy Cline, etc).....he's the most obnoxious guy alive. In the running at least. Anyway, that's what I was told growing up........kind of an obvious/somewhat outdated list.
