Members mnewb1
I don't have monitors for my recording set up, I had been using a 30 year old receiver and passive speakers to monitor sound for my M-audio interface and ProTools. I turned it on about an hour ago to work on a BT from the lesson loft that Mosiddiqi posted. I had imported the BT into Protools and I was giving it a listen and I heard a POP followed by a nice rising wisp of white smoke from the receiver...turned it off and unhooked everything...Guess it is time for some powered monitors. Good-by old friend you served me well.
Members FXR
I do the same thing with an old receiver. Used to be one intermittent channel, now it's both. I considered a powered monitor too. Let us know how you do. I have to fight with mine a little longer.
Members GAS Man
My condolences. I still feel the hurt from when my Sansui 8080DB went on the fritz. Lost most of the output power out of one side.I don't have the heart to dump it though (it rests in it original box out in the garage) because we were united back in '77 and it had a great warm deep tone. It was my first piece of audiophile gear and I worked at a lumber mill back then to pay for it.Not mine, but this is what they look like. They don't make 'em like that any more.

Members Doctor49
I am trawling the secondhand stores here for a phono amp to play my vinyl. I am amazed at the receivers etc that people have junked in favour of USB slotted mp3 players. Some real bargains around!

I am amazed at the receivers etc that people have junked in favour of USB slotted mp3 players. Some real bargains around! I was freaked out one day about 10 or so years ago.My Dad had a Sansui tube amp that he bought in Japan in the mid 50s. I think it was only around 15W or so, but it had a very nice tone into a single coaxial speaker in one huge custom built cab. That's in the day when they called them HiFi's.Anyway, he was moving from WA to FL and he told me he threw it all in the trash. I couldn't friggin believe it. I mean, he literally wouldn't even let me touch that gear as a kid, it was strictly hands off. It went from that to the trash Couldn't friggin believe it. That stuff was worth some bucks. He also had a Garrard turntable of the same era which I thought was very unique because it didn't put out a signal until after it was down on the vinyl so you never got that "chsssh-pop" sound of the stylus hitting the vinyl. All friggin collector worthy pieces and he said he toss them in the garbage. Members Doctor49
I still have the deck and two Goodmans Axiom twin cone 12" speakers from the early 60s. Audiophiles love 'em for some reason. I let the crappy amps go though.

Members Furtive
I picked my Marantz receiver up from my old tech nearly 20 years ago... it's as old as me. When it dies, I'll get it fixed.
