I'm going to retire this s-s-s route strat from it's metal duties due to it just not working out....LOL

I really really love Maple fretboards, and I really love pointy reversed headstocks. So I was leaning towards an ESP LTD M-53. I know, low end guitars wah wah flaws...you know they wouldn't make these guitars if they sucked so I'm down to try it out. They don't have any in my area so I'm going to buy without playing.

It's fairly simple....I'm just a bedroom playa and digital recording back and forth with my friends so I'm not looking for another PRS...even though I miss mine dearly.

Does anyone have the ESP LTD M-53? I like it because it's not a floyd rose (just cant do them) and it's got what i'm looking for...a basic humbucker guitar that I can bang out some metal riffs with. I haven't seen any other guitars that are around the same price range NEW that have what I want:

Humbucker in the bridge position

Simple tremolo / no trem

maple fretboard

able to be tuned to drop C with 11s.

What about an old Charvel model 1?

Cheap, Maple board, it'll do metal 'til the cows come home, and no PITA Floyd to worry about.

Superb build quality too.

And heres my other one...it' had been bodged with a Kahler before I got it, but I did a lot of gigs with it.

Duncan Hot Rails would be a good option for your strat, or check Guitarfetish for a cheaper option.

I can vouch for LTD guitars. I have the MV-300, if you can find one of those used I would highly recommend it, though it doesn't come with a maple fretboard. I've played it with 11's in dropped C for quite a long time. I have it in Dropped B right now, and it's a bit unstable, I just need to get it set up.

Buying new I would look at the Peavey Predator Plus. I bought one recently to have a 24 fret guitar. Got the string thru version. Music store even set it up (as a good music store should) for me before leaving. Plays well. Sounds very nice for the money (to the point of me reconsidering my idea of new PUs for a while anyway).

$199 before any negotiating. Fair price for what it is.

I second the Charvels. I usually see a bunch in pawn shops for pretty cheap, plus you can always make an offer at a pawn shop, and maybe score a sweet deal. Also I see a lot of lower end LTD's, Jacksons, and if you like em BC rich warlocks and what not in pawn shops. Might be worth a try.
