Members Badside
These are the same chinese made PRS look-alike kits you can find at a bunch of different places (except GFS, which has a different take on the PRS theme) If it was me, I'd put the extra dough towards this one:http://byoguitar.com/Guitars/BYO-Custom-Shop-C22-Body-and-Neck__BYO-CS-C22-BN.aspx Still cheaper than getting just the carved top PRS body from Warmoth and it's set neck. Edit: One thing that bothers me about that generic Chinese PRS kit is that the neck tenon is glued on. Therefore, your neck isn't glued to the body, it glues to a small wood piece that is glued to the body.Sure, many necks are built out of more than one piece, but to use an intermediate piece for the tenon is really cheapI must say though that I do not know if the 450$ version above is different
Members Deeee
hmm yeah i'd love to get the carved top version, but it would end up costing almost twice as much, with hardware and everything. I live in Australia so shipping is a biatch

Members Annoying Twit
Is this body made from two different species of wood? http://byoguitar.com/Guitars/Electric-Guitar-Kit--LPJR-SC__BYO-LPJR-SC.aspx

Although, I must admit import PRS feel cheap to me Not to mention the neck usually need a complete fret job to be playable on those.
Members Badside
nah, it's all mahogany both the body and the neck Or as the chinese manufacturers call it: "mahogany" There are a couple dozen species of wood that can legally be sold as mahogany, some of them are nothing like the Honduran Mahogany old Gibsons were made of. Members Weiner_Bomb
I bought their early explorer kits, and I didn't think it was any good. Looks like they made a leap in progress. that flying v kit is catching my eye. They sure do charge a lot for the upgraded parts.
Members ihavenofish
nah, it's all mahogany both the body and the neck meranti on the body - aka "philippine mahogany" which is not a real mahogany but not a bad wood either. the neck, not sure. could be african mahogany. Members Badside
By the way ihavenofish... being a guitar kit thread, I guess I'm staying on topic... but do you have any picture of completed Polar guitars? You may remember I contacted you a few weeks ago, I'm still interested in a set-neck kit from you, but I definitely would love to see pictures of a completed guitar. Thanks!

Members Elk
I just bought one from a guy last week, just got here last night. He did all the original assembly and painting but it plays awesome. The neck isn't super thin like on Ibanez guitars but isn't a baseball bat. Fits perfect in my hands. The electronics arn't the best but what do you expect? Overall I'd say its nicer than the Epiphones I've played, and definitely MIM Fenders. I've played the model its based off of (Jackson Kelly) and its similar, but frankly I like the kit more than any Kelly I've played. No clue what the body is made of, but it sounds great. The neck is absolutely beautiful and extremely well made, so far as to the guy I bought it from said he believed the neck alone was worth $150.
