Members lefchr
Why is paul McCartney ahead of Billy Sheehan? I agree w/ a few of their pics. Influence, How many people know who Billy is. Everyone has listened to Paul.
Members EADGBE
Hugh McDonald needs to be up there. And I've never heard of some of the others.
Members Ferdinandstrat
Yes, those are infact pretty much the greatest bassists of all time. Dont whine if it didnt include your favorite unfamiliar bassist.
Members islesdon
This is not an attack on the man. However, was Paul Gray (R.I.P.) really that good to make the list? I'm asking. Sorry, I haven't listened to that much Slipknot!

Sorry, I haven't listened to that much Slipknot! Na he only made it cuz he died recently. I don't know any songs of theirs with any outstanding bass. It's mostly Jim Root and Mick Thompson doing their thing. Or just having really experimental music.
Members Special J
In what alternate universe are Cliff Burton and the dude from Slipknot better bassists than Les Claypool and Jon Entwistle? Seriously?
Members BG76
Only on HCEG would Carol Kaye and James Jamerson not be mentioned.
Members islesdon
In what alternate universe are Cliff Burton and the dude from Slipknot better bassists than Les Claypool and Jon Entwistle? Seriously? Well, John Myung is listed at #1. I don't take the list seriously at all! Nothing against John Myung, but I can barely remember his basslines! I know Jaco Pastorius would be the #1 on the top of most bass players lists, and Geddy Lee as well.
Members islesdon
I just realized that Stu Hamm, and Tony Levin are not on this list. I'm no bass expert, but shouldn't they be?

Members _pete_
The best bassist I ever saw was Jimmy Johnson (played with Holdsworth in the '80's). The man is {censored}ing unreal.Dave LaRue is no slouch either. If Levin & Berlin aren't in there that should tell you something. Lists like this are always {censored}. There is no way to rank musicians. Can't be done.
Members MuyLoCo444
There should have had more metal bassists on the list...Geezer, Lemmy, Alex Webster??
Members NinjaModder
It isn't horrible.... Entwistle needs to higher up. Geddy Lee needs to be at number one. Paul needs to at least be at number three. John Paul Jones needs to be at four at least. They got it all wrong! Who are all these contemporary bassists!? Members ak47dragunov
The bottom 3/4 of the list is solid, and Geddy at 2 is great. But they must've been on crack when they chose paul gray at the top 5, 10, or even 100!!!!!
Members JoJo68
I would have liked to seen Kim Deal & Johnette Napolitano shown a little love myself. They are both driving forces to their bands sound and their playing defines their most popular songs. and your cred goes out the window...
Members tim gueguen
It bears repeating that the list was based on reader suggestions. So apparently a bunch of Dream Theater fans visit that site regularly.
