Members Engl Kramer
I know this won't be to everyones taste any many will consider it plain wrong, but I thought I'd post cos I've never seen anyone else try this on here and thought you might find it interesting. I paint with acrylics and had been wondering for a while if I had the bottle to do something similar with my new favourite guitar - my Ibanez RG321MH. It was matte black which was pretty cool but just not me. Here she is pre-op. And here are some after pics. Heres a couple of 'the ruining of' pics for those with extra morbid curiosity. First I sanded the body all over and gave it two coats of white to give me my 'canvas'. As you can see I left the pups connected - this was because although I've changed plenty of pups before, the wiring in these is far to complex for my little brain. This was at the point when I kept looking at it and thinking stuff like 'What the {censored} have I done?' In this one you can see where I was removing the paint down to the original finish under the bridge. Out of interest, the paint although thick in places has had no percievable effect on the lovely resonance of the guitar plugged in or unplugged and it still sustains fantastically well. I'm really chuffed with it and had a lot of fun. Apart from the drying times being long (each layer took 24 hrs to be ready for another- this took a week to finish) acrylic is very easy to use. I used mostly a trowel/ pallet knife thingy, random bits of card and when all else failed brushes. The beauty of this is that it doesn't need to be perfect. Members BG76
looks cool on an Ibanez. I could see some poofy haired 90s guy with a silk shirt and skin tight leather pants rocking that. Good work!
Members milosch
You may want to hit it with some clear on top.
Members Engl Kramer
You may want to hit it with some clear on top. Is that cos you don't like the look or to protect it? Its deliberately 3D and {censored}ed up looking. That would be like putting an oil painting in a glass frame. Most have my paintings have been mangled by my kids and had food and worse over them for years and still look like new. Its very durable. If it did chip I think that would add to the look. Members RockStringBendr
I like it. Very Different. I bet a dollar that some custom shop will see this and steal the whole vibe within a year.

Members NHLfan2010
At first glance, I thought "what the heck, is this guy nuts?" But upon further examination and by looking at your close-up pics that is really awesome! I might even pay to have someone do that to one of my guitars... Members Angry Tele
thats pretty badass! You should do a pedal enclosure like that.
Members RaVenCAD
9/10.. You lost a point cuz it's an Ibanez, which isn't hard to find in a crazy finish like this. Do that to a Les Paul (a real Gibson) and you'd get 11/10. Desecration gets the bonus point =)

Members RaVenCAD
Damn Engl! I like that! Great work. I'd spray some clear on it to protect it for sure. I'm torn.. On one hand, yes, protect it so it doesn't get ruined. On the other hand, that'll detract from the textural experience of it. I love acrylics on canvas because they'll build up so nicely. Having that on a guitar would be really cool, even if it's not the most durable finish I can think of. I say let it stay raw, or at the very most use one thin coat of clear. Members Belva
Nice! What I like most is it's different. That adds points every time in my book. I'd never own anything like that, but that's beside the point. Way cool.

EG DO NOT PUT LACQUER OVER ACRYLIC PAINT You will destroy your finish. http://www.ehow.com/way_5956109_can-lacquer-over-acrylic-paint_.html

Members Pine Apple Slim
Not my cup of tea personally, but it fits on that guitar.Good job! I can tell by the patterns that you are a skilled painter & some thought went into it.
Members metal0822
i totally dig it man, badass those rg321s are pretty sweet too, ive liked the 3 that my friends have owned.
Members RingoCalamity
It really works. I'd like to have it sealed somehow, because I probably wouldn't be crazy about the feel of it, or the chipping - but I think it looks great. Members Deadbeat Son
I think it looks great! Would I want it? Probably not, but I can still recognize a cool guitar when I see it, whether or not it fits me.
Members Engl Kramer
Thanks for all your positive feedback guys!I really must learn how to use multiple quotations- I know it may seem a bit impersonal to reply this way but I really appreciate your kind words. Up to the sky- thats amazing! I'm guessing you've got quite wide ranging taste in music- not every day you see rainbows next to Canibal Corpse T shirts! I've definately seen some sort of juice at the art shop for protecting Acrylics- I'll probably get some. One thing I forgot to say was how impressed I was at the build quality of this cheapo guitar.I had to wrestle the neck in and out of the join with plenty of squeeking and creaking. The electronics were well done and sheilded nicely. All in all I was pleasantly surprised.
Members Unto The Sky
thats rather insightful of you Yeah I guess so, i'm going for a textured finish, similar to yours, a little more subtle but you get the idea I know the stuff you mean, it's what i intend to use to protect mine, let us know how that works!
