ESP or Ibanez???

ShredR

I am looking for a great used guitar that has a great solid construction, fast neck, quality craftsmanship and has a floating trem that can take a good beating. I play mostly rock, metal and shred. I narrowed it down to these two models.

Ibanez JS-1000

Can anyone help me make a decision. I played them both and I'm kinda leaning towards the ESP. I'm still looking for more opinions though. If anyone ever had any experience with these either owned one or played one.

Thanks!

I own three Ibanez guitars, all are great guitars. I currently own two LTDs and have owned a couple of ESPs. For what you want it for, the ESP wins hands down. I like the thinner necks on the ESPs and the larger frets are a big help. The trems on each LTD and ESP I have ever played have been quite good.

I've tried that ESP, it was incredibly easy to play. It's also got 24 frets, which gives you a slight advantage over the Satch.

What kind of advantage? 2 extra notes that most normal humans never use in tasteful music?

I've played both of those guitars, and both are really nice. If I had to choose one though, it's be that JS. I love the fatter neck on the JS and the JS also comes with an Edge Pro trem, which IMO, is better than the OFR that the ESP comes with. Both are super high quality guitars, but that's my pick.

The Ibanez has quite a thick neck iirc, I had one a few years back and remember it being really chunky. I sold it because floating trems are way too much effort than I can be bothered with

Really? All Ibanez's I have played have had the tiniest necks I've ever played on.

I have both Ibanez, a 7V Jem and an ESP LTD M-1000 (not the best of quality and I wished I`d have got the M2 now), , but the Ibanez is of a much higher quality, although probably not a good comparison between these two. A lot of it is down to personal preference though, (don`t you just love it when somebody tells you that), and of course the type of stuff you wish to play on it. For my own preference I`d go for the JS, which I would imagine would be more versatile and more mature looking than having skulls on the neck, lol

I'd look into getting an RG. Never owned one, but the ones I have played (RG350DX and the 770) played beautifully, and sounded pretty damn sweet aswell.
:thu:

I have an Ibanez RG3120TW that I'm very pleased with. It's a Prestige, and back when the guitar was made, the Prestige name was synonymous for high quality materials and construction. It's discontinued, but many feel that this model was one of the best RG's that Ibanez ever made, and want to see it reissued.

They're great players, and can be found very cheap on eBay and other places. I'd much rather go for a used RG, as long as it's been properly set up, than either of the two the OP posted.

But that's just me. Value for money, etc. :)

very wise indeed.

in terms of giggability the ibby is much more versatile while the ESP just wont cut it for wedding or church gigs.

anyhoo, like the guy said upstairs. you just have to try both and decide for yerself.

good luck

Not the JS models. Joe apparently digs old strats, cuz that's what I think the JS feels like. It's nothing like a Wizard, which is why the JS is my favorite Ibanez model.

If you go for an RG, look into the RG550...

(of course, this is coming from the guy who has 22 ibanez, so I could be biased)

:o

I agree with this, I've had a longtime crush for that particular model. I did score a beautiful purple RG550 earlier this year, you can see it in the background of the pic I posted, but I couldn't seem to get the action right, and the microphones were original...

I will get another one eventually, preferably an early model that hasn't been played to death. Good workhorse guitars, just ditch those Ibanez mics and install some DiMarzio's, and you've got a killer guitar that should last for years and years.

Whatever, I don't get what your problem with my post is in the first place, Mr. Rolleyes, so... yeah.

I just always get a laugh out of people obsessing over 24 frets, or even over 22 frets. I personally spend so little time in the upper register, it's not even an issue for me. oh, and just for you.............:rolleyes::rolleyes::p:facepalm:

But I'm not, I'm just trying to suggest a guitar. I mean, c'mon, these are my main guitars:

21 frets, .010 strings. I hardly ever crave another three frets, but the guy asking for guitar suggestions might want that option, thus my suggestion.
