Members alexit3
I'm trying to think of a quick, repeatable 'scientific' way to balance pickups where you don't end up chasing the tone around in circles. Here's what I'm supposing... Plug guitar into some sort of meter and set input level to the maximum you'll actually be using. Starting with one side of one pickup, play as hard as you can imagine in your desired situation, and adjust pickup height until the meter clips, then turn down a hair - until your full volume comes just short of clipping. Repeat for all pickups until everything matches... Questions:-Cheap gear to do this? I just have a practice amp and laptop w/o line-in.-Pole pieces? Set flat initially so the edges are your ideal gain, then raise internal pole pieces to match radius? -Intentional lower pickup output than just below clipping? Lowering output from pickups gives more color to the amp, less string/picking sound, etc...
Members Pope on a Rope
Just use a screwdriver and your ears. What you propose just complicates a simple task. It's your ears that will be the final judge anyway.
Members Angry Tele
you can use an old 4 track or anything that has a level.
