I posted this home brew BT a while back, but got zero response, other than people moaning that it sounded like a rip off of "Cat scratch fever" which it does.

Thought some of you guys might like to have a go over it. If not, just ignore it (again) :D

Sorry about the clipping on the Drums...I buggered up the levels!

Heres what I ended up doing with it:

Hope at least a couple of you get a buzz playing over it.

Might be beyond me but I'll try and see it I have time to have a go

Depends on the weekend Honey Do list :D

BTW Marc I don't think it's much of a rip off on anything

I think it's a great sounding original :thu:

but the key would help a tone deaf person like me :wave:

Recorded three takes tonight. Picked the first one...

Gary Moore Les Paul bridge pick-up into a used POD:

Marc running on ice (tonight's take)

When I heard the BT, it sounded instantly familiar and when I tried to give tonight's take the title "Marc's running on ice", I got the message that I had already a song with that title! Turned out that I had already jammed to it when you invited us to it back then. :D But I was late to the party and I think I sent it to you with a PM instead of the thread (can't remember anymore). In any case, here it is:

Pacifica 904 into miced Egnater amp:

Marc's running on ice (previous jam)

PS: If you only have time to listen to one, the second one (with the PAC) is better.

Now that Richard mentioned it and I checked...yeah I downloaded it the last time and even knew it was in a

I guess I never got time to record it I think it was just before I went on vacation

Not sure if I'll get a crack at it this weekend...might take a run with the waves GTR that I got from a buddy just for something different and quieter for the inlaws

Marc, your playing is at a level to which I aim. The solo has a theme building as it goes along, building toward a tension and resolution as well as technically suburb chops. Bravo!

I think your phrasing is excellent for this BT! Again like Marc you seem to have a direction and voice beyond just mindless noodling. Though for my taste, (understanding that it is just my taste as we all have our personal takes) I would love to hear a little more dirt and maybe delay for a good screaming solo over this very rockin track.

Good stuff man, loved how you dismiss it as a cat scratch fever rip off and never mention the Priest stamp all over it. Especially after the solo. I'd rather listen to your stuff based on this one song than most of the {censored} that is put out commercially these days.

1st take:

I think you're rock chops are coming along really nicely. Note choice and phrasing are excellent, and your lines are nicely melodic and well structured.

I still think you could pile the gain on a bit, and let that roaring rock animal out! :D

That would also make your gorgeous Les Paul really sing, and the extra sustain would make life easier for you regarding legato runs and stuff.

Massive kudos to you for doing this, you have the chops and the phrasing for this sort of stuff, it's just a case of getting a bit gnarly and wild and letting your hair down, and not worrying about perfection....your relatively cleanish sound leaves no where for you to hide, and the fact that you still deliver speaks volumes for your potential.

Cool!

Take 2 (older take):

This flowed really nicely, and had some really sweet runs...I might nick some bits of this! :D

Richard, do me a favour.

I'm not experienced with a pod, but check out some of the high gain amp models and crank the gain a little...80's and onward Marshall model, Soldano or whatever the pod equivalent is, add a little reverb and a touch of delay.

This tone to me is a little closer to how I might do it , but I still think you can go dirtier!

Great playing...for someone whom says they a re out of their comfort zone (understandable as a Jazz guy getting to grips with rock improv) I think theres a GREAT rock player player in you that is rapidly breaking out.

Keep it up man....you're a way better rock guitarist than I am a Jazz player, and your enthusiasm and dedication are inspirational!

Thanks for doing these...much appreciated.

Whoah!

Loads of attitude and oomph from the off, good cutting rock tone and great playing.....some of what you do reminds me of me!

Thanks for your kind comments on my take, but aim a bit higher than me...you sound pretty much there to me, and I'm an old geezer who's going off the boil!

Really impressed with this....I really like the actual WAY you play, and I'm flattered that you like my playing.

I do think that out of the many many talented players on here, that you are one of the guys who sounds like he's coming from a similar place to me with your playing and style.

Great stuff!

Marc, you're in the big league. Most people can't talk and walk as good as you play guitar.

Thank you so much Richard.....you always make me feel better about my own inadequacies...if some people enjoy what I do, I'm going in the right direction.

Thanks for your continued support...it's appreciated.

Thanks man. Much appreciated.

The Cat Scratch Fever thing was just an accidental similarity to the riff...your right about the Priest thing, I originally thought that too, and being a massive classic metal and Priest fan, I'm pleased!

Great BT Marc!...very Priest!..which is a good thing obviously..was just listening to the "Sin after Sin" album..:rawk:

Your take: ..utterly killer. Damn!...'nuff said.

jKater: I really like both takes, agree that a bit more gain would help, but kudos for delivering without it!..some really cool and melodic lines in both.

mnewb1: Excellent! :rawk:..sort of the thing I was going for with mine..really good rock attitude and tasty licks. :thu:

Mine is a mess..I just rushed through and didn't tidy it up at all..so apologies for the slop and less than tidy phrasing, but was great fun to :rawk: out in A..haven't done that for a while!.

Liked the rhythmic percussive bit at the start.

Really nice harmony stuff too.

I realy liked that...somer killer stuff in there, parts of it almost sounded Maideny to me. :thu:

You're doing stuff on there that I wish I could.

Fantastic....if thats sloppy. then I want some of your slop!

By the way, thank you all for your encouragement.

mosiddiqi, WOW, Man I need some 80's big hair and leather just to listen to that smokin awesomeness!!! Did you double some parts in there or use an octive effect?

Excellent phrasing with pristine articulation...you've got Chops, Brother!

...I lost my 80's hair...many years ago .

Thanks!..I don't think I doubled anything deliberately..some of the harmony stuff was really off the cuff and not thought out very well, so I probably doubled some notes by mistake!. :o

sorry man, I was mistaking harmony for an octive... probably didn't deserve my score on the tone test.
