Guitars you want that just aren't made

Sure, some guitars aren't easily found on the shelf but can be built out of parts from Warmoth or whatever. But what about those set-necks for guys like us that don't have access to wood-working tools?

For instance, I want a Les Paul Special with the 1960 setup (neck pickup moved towards the bridge for the stronger neck joint), but I want it with the chunky 1959 neck profile.

What about you guys? What guitars do you want that aren't already on the shelf and aren't easily made? I don't count anything that you can slap together with parts from Warmoth.

One of the Japanese companies probably made or make it.

"The Ibanez SZ series"

I can pick up a used one easy enough but the problem is they changed their SZ series to the SZR series. In doing so, they changed from a 25.1 scale to the more traditional 24.75 scale.

They totally ruined a very unique and incredibly easy instrument to play that was very versatile. The 25.1 scale was just awesome.

Big fail from Ibanez.

in '73 (altho there were transition years), ric changed their truss rod design and the necks got a lot fatter. the old design worked fine but it was a bit of a PITA in that you needed to bend the neck before tightening or you risked popping the fret board off. the old necks were marvelous. the thinner contour suits itself to the narrow width better than the greatly rounded contour of the newer rics IMO, even the CW model which was supposed to be an exact replica of the old necks (you can thank me for convincing JH to remove an extra .5 millimeter) used the newer truss rod design and was a full 1/2 centimeter thicker at the nut than a vintage rics. if i had my choice, i would play nothing but vintage ric necks. unfortunately, A) they're getting kinda expensive now B) they don't make a full sized HB model, a decent whammy etc. so i've had to stray to acquire certain capabilities and sounds. oh well, got my 360/12 and 450/6 before they went outta financial reach. it's not that i can't play the other necks i own, but damn.... those rics of mine just feel like coming home.

Gibson RD, Explorer and Flying V with flame maple top and binding. Ebony fingerboard would be icing on the cake. And a decent selection of finishes: Trans black, Black cherry and Tiger's eye, for starters.

A man can dream.

I have been on the search for this Gibson SG 90 for a good part of 10 years. Have only seen 2 of them in this color and one was beyong outrageous price wise, and the other was on a completed search from ebay. Seriously this guitar is my dream guitar. 25.5 inch scale, H/S, String through SG, yummy!

Mahogany center, basswood wings, maple top, rosewood neck, 5A birdseye maple fingerboard- Scalloped, George Lynch neck profile, H/S setup with an Ibanez Edge Zero trem, pushbutton killswitch, Volume, Tone, Active tone knob. Bolt on neck, and have it cost under $1000. :)

This.

Y'all Be sure to sign the petition in my sig now:thu: (we may see the return of the starcaster one day;))

Even if they did reissue these you know they would F it up. They wouldn't get the pickups right, and would probably do something different as well. A possible reissue might look like an original from a distance though, if you squint.

Yeah, you are probably right, but I'll remain forever the optimist;)

I'll keep at it, there WILL be a re-issue (sometime in the next 20 years):thu:
