are those class 5 combos any good? Im thinking of getting one, the cream colored. Can it do clapton-bluesbreaker/cream tone?

I played one at Guitar Center for a while. You basically have to turn it WAY up if you want to get any kind of rock overdrive. I didn't like it at all. If that's what you're going for then it might be ok.

I love mine for this reason, I can crank it in a small room and not make my ears bleed. As far as I'm concerned it nails that Marshall classic rock crunch made famous by the likes of AC/DC, Zeppelin, etc, also as an added bonus it cleans up really nice if you roll back the guitar volume (think Bring it on Home or Since I've Been Loving You).

Does anybody ever play their electric guitars with a band anymore?

Every 5W tube amp I've ever tried has seemed PLENTY loud. Perhaps even TOO loud... until I tried to use it with both a drummer and a bassist in the room. Then suddenly it became obvious why bigger amps were the norm before the 5W tube fad came along.

Some of them are kind of nifty as stage amps if you mic them through the PA, but a 30W - 50W amp works just as well for that, and will get the job done in all other settings as well.

^^^this amp is for bedroom playing and recording, lol I dont keep a drummer under my bed.

yeah sounds cool. Ill check one out today. I want the cream one because my twin reverb is cream (blonde) colored too.

I'm thinking about getting a Class 5 during Christmas break when I can work a a good bit (I'm in college and only working 10 hours a week or so, to pay for groceries and such)

If a head came out I'd scoop it up. I have a couple cabs it should sound pretty nifty with and it would fit better in my apartment as a head.

But I love the sound of the combo so there is a good chance I will just pick one of those up.

I hear ya. A few times tried using a Vox AD30VT I used to have. I sounded like I was in the bottom of a 20 foot hole compared to everyone else.

Sheesh.

I've often wondered if I could get by with 15 tube watts...and I suppose with a 2X12 it might work OK....but my 60 watt 1X12 tube combo is easy to carry, not very big and plenty loud...why make life harder than it has to be?

This is why I would like an 18 watt version. Or something more than the 5 watts to keep up with my bassist and drummer.

I get your arguement about 5w amps not working in all live settings, but at the same time with PA systems as they are now the thought of needing a 30w - 100w amps is long since gone in my opinion.

Just as an example, one of my friends uses a Class 5 in stereo with a Blues Jr as his live rig and it works flawlessly for him. His live setup was actually downgraded from a Hotrod Deluxe in stereo with a AC15 just due to the large amps being too loud for most club settings.

With reverb.

Yes!

It's interesting that the Bugera 5 is about the only one with enough smarts to have done that. I have several reverb effects around the house, but I don't like the friggin clutter of the extra power adapters and patch cables, or the unit itself.

But life's not perfect.

What I would really like is to trade in my first generation rattle box Marshall Class 5 for the new green version.

New in racing green
