So, Gibson Is Promising Us A Revolution

And we know this much for sure....

1. It IS a product, not a company announcement.

2. Henry has said several times over the last few weeks that Gibson guitars will always be produced in the USA.

Now, given that, WHAT would Gibson have to release to qualify as revolutionary?

To me, steels strings and the electric guitar were revolutionary. That sets the bar pretty high. Now, I like Gibson guitars but I'll also admit they've pulled their fair share of dumb moves. Zoot Soot? Sleepy Tiger? Please. But, even with Sleepy Tiger, they didn't have all this hoopla with events at the Hard Rock in NYC. That's opening the door to a friggin disaster if this is another limited run, gadget filled reissue.

I'm having a hard time imagining anything that comes close "revolutionary." Maybe an unbreakable headstock? Carbon fiber guitars? :idk:

Let's hear your product ideas that meet the standard of "revolutionary."

To be revolutionary, it's gotta make me look at my guitar rig and say "Gee, this {censored} is outdated."

I can't think of a thing. However, I know I won't be let down, as I expect nothing.

That ipaul bit was quite unimpressive. I love my Gibson, love it, but their recent marketing endeavors make my face meet my palm in a very shameful manner.

Exactly....My rig is outdated. But with Variax, synth, etc, they're gonna have to do something really off the wall to qualify as revolutionary.
They are really pushing this. I got another email last night about it.
I'm wondering if maybe it's a new pickup system not based on magnetics. :idk:

Whatever it is, you can count on three things..

1 - At least 4 digits on the price, and the first won't be a 1..
2 - HCEG will hate it, but secretly lust over it and pray for an Epiphone version.
3 - There will be a GFS version that'll almost not suck. Almost..

Even weirder:

"It a firebirdX special edition

With effects built in as well as all the robotic stuff. It's gibsons secret project.

Seems pretty lame. Link http://m.flickr.com/#/photos/mudygreezy/

When I saw it in the focus group, they had a wireless pedalboard for it. Suck on that non disclosure henry.

BTW.. this is how the focus group went... "Isn't this great".. "No"... "You're all stuck in the past, get out""

Alsoly (as my niece used to say..)

Here it is folks (thank you anonymous internet):

"Gibson is producing a new line of Les Paul. This model will be a cheeper version of the studio and will be produced in China, yet it will still carry the Gibson logo. The guitar comes with a usb port, and a genuine Gibson usb wire. Plug the guitar into your computer and you are greeted with a program that contains a dumbed down version of Amplitube, and basic recording/editing fuctions, and a program to help you learn songs, along with a store.

The big 'revolution' is Gibson will have an 'Itunes' like store. Songs will be downloaded as *.gpf files, which is a compsoite of .mp3 and Gibson's new tabulature format. The format makes learning the songs super easy. You can slow down the song, and there will even be videos for some of the most popular songs, which would require an additional purchase. This isn't like learning songs from youtube, or other tab sites. These songs will be accurate as Gibson is working with the Artists when possible, and life long musicians otherwise.

*edit: The price mark for the guitar is going to be $300 - $500. The $500 version will have better electronics, and finish. "

Sounds a lot like Line6's Gearbox software. So not so revolutionary :D
