Members JilaX^
I dont hate EC, I like his late 70s stuff 461 ocean blvd etc...And I saw recently him talking about how he HATED the term Supergroup the labels coined for Blind FaithAlbert Lee should get way more respect than he does, hes better than all of them other Brits(Page/Beck/clapton/Townshend/Trower)put together if you ask me Why? To be honest I've not yet seen anything of Albert that doesn't appear really bland. Might just be that I haven't been exposed to the right material. But my preference is to hear him playing on someone else's music (as long as I like the music:thu:).
Members Dogsinotpalc
Am I the only one to thing that neither does particularly well in the clip in the OP? They're having fun, but neither perform to the level that they can.Yes, you are the only that things.I can agree with what you're saying though. It's not like earth shattering playing from, but I still love it. And it's that laid back fun atmosphere that hugely contributes to the enjoyment. And I LOVE the TeleGib...I so desire one. Members Cats-o-caster
Clapton all the way... he's not a douchebag and trying to "overplay" another guitarist ever, Beck...another story

Members Dogsinotpalc
Agree on the telegib. Of course his looks much cooler but I wonder how much different the sound out of a deluxe tele is In Jeff's hands very little. There were few scenes in Scorsese's Blues series for PBS with Jeff and bunch of other players from the Isles jamming. Tom Jones was doing vocals and he sounded stellar...anyway, Beck was playing an old Tele and still sounded pretty much the same. Cleaner tone and no trem, but he was still able to achieve all the tones and tricks he wanted. It was also the most subtle playing I've heard from him in ages. The guitar is just a tool for him at this point. He'll get whatever sounds he wants from whatever the available instrument(s). Members Alexbiscuit
the beauty in these jeff beck/clapton videos is the dichotomy. they really offset each other beautifully. you wouldn't want two jeff becks on stage.

Members tantamo
I love jeff beck, he tears it up wherever he goes. I remember when I started playing, I saw him on some blues special but didn't really know much about him... he got up on stage with clapton, albert collins, buddy guy, bb king...with all those greats up on the stage he stepped up and really blew all of them away with the musicality and originality of his playing...well except maybe albert collins held his own. Members ContractPilot
EC seems to like to play with allot of great players......and do it live.....something to be said about that...
Members onelife
This is a tough one... as an overall musician and considering who influenced modern music and guitar playing more, I'd give the nod to EC. But for sheer guitar proweness and genius, JB is in a class all by himself. There are a lot of guys that can sound like Clapton... But Beck.... just when you think you are on to what he is doing he will completely blow you away... he plays with such reckless abandon, and yet it always comes out perfect. I would like to add a bit to this. I always thought that Jeff Beck was ahead of the curve in the sense that he was blazing new ground on the guitar and was a bit too 'far out' for general audiences. His listeners included the other guitar players who were reaching the mass audiences - he showed them what to do with the instrument and they would incorporate his ideas into their playing and eventually bring it to the masses. That being said, I think Jeff Beck actually influenced modern guitar playing more than Eric Clapton did but in a more indirect way. Since Beck has so many 'apostles' to spread the influence he more than makes up for not having the mass popularity of Clapton - it just takes a little longer for his stuff to become mainstream and that might also have something to do with his advanced technique (it takes more effort to learn his stuff)
Members TheSound
Jeff Beck is one of best ever.
Members onelife
Perhaps the best ever. Leo invented the strat, Jimi defined it and Jeff has taken it to a new level. Beck is, IMO, the only one who actually redefined the instrument rather than just elaborating on what Hendix did with it.

I listen because I like the sounds he/she is making (with the instrument OR voice, the most expressive instrument, by far).
